Northbound Leather Kinky Pride: Let Us Not Forget Our Roots …

Kardynyl SynysTyr and Lady J Two (Marquis)There are times we, as a community, tend to forget our established proprietors (who supply us with our trappings and equipment) are also integral parts of our respective Communities. In Toronto, Northbound Leather has been in, around and an integral part of the fetish and SM communities in Southern Ontario for what seems like eons. Other companies hoping to gain a foothold and a following will forever be benchmarked beside the iconic Yonge Street landmark leather emporium.

Your Humble Narrator and True Friend would like to take but a moment to thank the event organizers, George and Anna, for a really lovely evening in the Distillery last Friday night at the Kinky Pride gathering. The night was truly perfect, weather wise – one could not have asked for better cooperation from Mistress Nature. The skies did open up for a period of time during the day – this is summer in Southern Ontario, after all – but by the time things got into full swing, the evening had turned perfect for a mostly-outdoor affair amongst the pyramidal flame pots and ancient cobblestones of the historic District. The ambience and the atmosphere created by the impeccably-kept old Gooderham and Worts whiskey factory (you can still catch a whiff of long-ago brewed spirits in the rain-tinted air) was truly … Magic.

I do believe that the absolute most fun for everyone in attendance … had to be the astonishment at some of the passers-by, each in turn suffering some severe form of whiplash, from taking in all the delicious, classy and elegant eye candy having a grand time with their peers on the cobbestone patio. Lady J, my beloved partner in this life, and I both were quite pleased and honoured to renew acquaintances with some old friends (some rather surprised she had moved to Toronto) and start new friendships with great people.

Marina Black and Lady J One (Marquis)Our most special of “Thank Yous” to Ms. Marina Black in particular. The Lady was amazing last Friday night and Lady J and I both very grateful and honoured beyond compare for her hospitality, and her friendship. Legends are born from the minds and actions of great people: and this Lady is already well on her way to that elusive “legendary” status. From the bottom of our hearts, we send our love and our appreciations.

These days, I think that most of the general, world-wide SM Community take Northbound Leather completely for granted: They’ve been such an integral part of the Community for so long, that we just tend to assume that they’ll always “be there” to organize events, build our coveted apparel ensembles, and supply us some of our accoutrement’s. With the myriad of other options available for kinksters to prance about and ply their proclivities, I think it is sometimes easy to forget the contribution Northbound Leather has made to the success of our collective in the Gay and Lesbian and Heterosexual communities both. I think it’s easy to feel intimidated and therefore discount Northbound as a viable option: not just for attire and some equipment but as a venue host and event organizer as well. I know that last night, watching George and Anna (owners of Northbound Leather) tirelessly working to make sure each guest was having a good time (along with Ms. Black), I gained a new-found respect and admiration for all of them. Each year in the crisp autumn air, Northbound Leather hosts the largest annual gathering of fetish folk in the world at the immense Docks facility along Toronto’s storied waterfront. The quality of their smaller events does not suffer in comparison: George and Anna work very hard to try and provide a fantastic experience to each attendee who ventures out to any of their events – and the Kinky Pride Event was certainly no exception.

The Two Leather Boys One (Marquis)The previous evening, Northbound hosted a much smaller “Meet and Greet” at the Yonge Street store location, which was well attended by some of the more recognizable names that practice our lovely little pastime. It was wonderful to talk to some well known authors of important SM-related literature – and it was nice to see Midori, the Fetish Diva from the West Coast, out and enjoying the festivities amongst Toronto friends and admirers. The Lady is always so cordial, friendly – and the very personification of the word class - it is impossible not to instantly fall prey completely to her charms. On a personal note, the Friday Meet and Greet at the retail location was somewhat of a “Coming Out Party” for Lady J and most everyone in attendance made sure she was warmly welcomed. It is this kind of mutual respect and admiration for some of our iconographic figures that gives me great hope for the continued future of SM folk as a true, if not gigantic, extended family.

While the focus of Pride Week events on the Northbound calender have, in the past, tended to focus nearly exclusively on the Gay and Lesbian contingent, this year George and Anna decided to invite and include the general SM populace to join in the celebrations. While it is true that this decision may have ruffled some hard-core feathers amongst the Gay and Lesbian crowd, in general the gesture was received enthusiastically and was most welcomed by the majority of the party-goers in attendance. Lady J and I renewed acquaintances with new friends (pictured to the left) – who treated us with the utmost respect and welcomed us with open arms as one of their “own”. We loved their playfulness – and were deeply touched by the affections they both displayed for not only each other, but for all of their leather and latex comrades in arms that braved the early rain to take in the evening’s fun.

Northbound Anna (Marquis)

SM types are going to be hard pressed to match the enthusiasm and the boundless energy that is wrapped up in a little latex package known to all in the Toronto community as simply Anna. Amazingly, the lady took great care (as one of the hosts, naturally) to make sure all of their guests were taken care of. She did all of this, mind you, from the early morning until well into the wee hours of the next day, without complaint and an ever-present smile and enthusiasm that was unmatched – and all the while in skyscraper heels. Lady J and I were astonished at just how much energy and sheer joy she exhibited that evening. George, the other half of the Northbound team, was equally unmatched in energy and enthusiasm – and together they provided all party-goers a stark reminder of how grateful we as a Community should truly be for the efforts they both continually make to bring a little taste of leather and latex into the large and varied Toronto scene.

We are certainly looking forward to the rest of the summer’s events! Wherever you may call home in this world, we urge you to go out during your own Pride Week festivities (if they haven’t already passed, of course – but there’s always next year!) and support all aspects of our alternative communities. We also urge you to support the vendors and organizers, like Northbound Leather, who take the time to plan and organize such fabulous events that give all of us a chance to gather in the spirit of friendship … and be a part of a true family.

We talk to Blacklickorish Latex about the upcoming fashion show at the Marquis Fetish Ball

July
2009 | 12:34 pm

Bklack Lickorish Roulette DressHere at Marquis America we are very excited about the Blacklickorish Latex fashion show at the upcoming Marquis Fetish Ball, on July 18 2009. We talk to Alyssa, Blacklickorish’s creator, about her background:

How did you get started in latex fashion?

I’ve always had a love for fashion, and when I had finally went to school for design I knew I wanted to do something different. Regular fabrics didn’t do anything for me….I had previously noticed latex, and grew very interested in the material. So I wanted to know all I could, asked around to people who had worked with it, I purchased books, and not long before finishing school, a friend mentioned there was a latex designer (Tressa of Fierce Couture) who needed an assistant, and I jumped right on the opportunity! I was thrilled to be able to finally learn the craft of latex, and from there fell in love with it..

Were you always interested in the more, shall we say, exotic or fetishy side of fashion?

I’ve always been the person to admire the female form, and I think latex does a nice job at hugging the curves, and melting onto the body. The way latex feels when you’re wearing it, makes it something exotic on it’s own. I saw how people were so attracted to latex and saw the fetish in the material all on it’s own..I grew up around the goth/industrial scene and have always been near to the fetish scene and the attire of all those around. I  wanted to give something a little extra to the latex enthusiasts and all of the above.

Are you a lifestyle fetish person or more interested making clothing for those who are?

I am not a lifestyler, unless of course you include latex! But I make clothes for everyone and anyone who wants them! I have seem to have had my pieces in a array of interests. So lifestyler, fashion enthusiasts, models, and even a few for magazines, as well as tv spots or the person who wants something for a special evening ;)

Do you see latex as just another fabric,or are you specially aware of its fetish properties?

I mentioned above how I grew a love for latex, and all of it’s qualities..so I myself have the latex fetish. I have friends that poke fun at me since I get so excited just even talking about it! The way it smells, the way it feels, the way it shines, how it sounds when you smack someone’s ass….

What can we expect at your fashion show at Marquis Fetish ball?

Fierce, but fancy …

June
2009 | 5:55 pm

Erik von Gutenberg recommends the Efest 2009 August 21 to 23, 2009 in Silicon Valley.

Efest is an enema-centric event where people can meet others with similar interests to socilize, learn and play. It is a fun filled weekend full of discussions, socials, parties, classes and other medical fetish demonstrations.

Due to the growing enema community on the West coast, Edges is pleased to host Efest West, the first enema festival weekend on the West coast. As always, this event will maintain our core goals of striving to educate our community about safe and consensual kink play while still being fun and enjoyable.

Efest West is a private and discrete event created for those that enjoy alternative sexual play. It is a safe and secure environment to meet others with similar fetishes and engage in play.

The theme of this years’ Efest West is “Bridging Gaps” within our community which includes age differenences, fetish interests and style of play. In an attempt to conquer this, we are presenting classes that include other kink and fetish interests such as age play, sounds, historical role play and medical bondage.

Von Gutenberg Weekly toy review Blackstyle

reviewbannerErik von Gutenberg recommends the weekly toy review with Mistress Darkniis. She knows the toys as no other and we are proud to have her on the blog reviewing toys & accessories!

Blackstyle – Anatomical Latex Dog Mask

Blackstyle is well known internationally for their latex designs and latex bondage. They have sent us their anatomical latex dog mask for review.

This is a very heavy duty piece made of 1.20mm black latex – molded into the shape of the dog.

blackstyle_dog_mask

This particular piece is available in three different versions – the regular version, one with a back zipper, and one with a back zipper and a built on slave collar. Of course they also sell the leash and the dog tail; and puppy tail rubber butt plugs to go with the mask for your complete puppy play set.

There is an option to have the eyes and/or the mouth open and closed when you are completing your order.

Your latex pup will love wearing this hood for play sessions – no risk of tearing and the heavy duty molding ensures that the hood will retain its shape no matter what.

A suggestion from a long time rubberist friend of mine is to wear a very thin latex hood and shine it with a silicone lube to make it nice and slippery – the heavier hoods and gas masks will slip over your head much easier and not grab or pull hair!

With a little imagination and your gear from Blackstyle your next rubber puppy play session is sure to be a huge success!

Darkly Sensuous is the Night in the Lair of Ms. Marina Black

26|
June
2009 | 7:48 am

Marina_Selects -19

Marquis America is pleased to bring you this personal insight into one of North America’s premiere Dominas, Ms. Marina Black of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

She is, amongst her peers, regarded as the consummate professional. She is also a true SM lifestyle practitioner – and those fortunate enough to be invited into her presence are quick to note that in her world – there is simply “no nonsense”. She is discerning … articulate to a fault … experienced beyond measure … and thorough in all aspects (from initial introduction to eventual encounter) in all things fetish and sadomasochistic. When she walks into a room, whether adorned in the finest, custom-designed latex couture or comfortably ensconced in a pair of “sensible” leather boots, black jeans and classic silken blouse, there can be no doubt that she is forever and always in complete … control.

The lady has been an integral and visible part of Canada’s SM scene for a number of years, as a facilitator, educator, occasional film subject and, of course, as one of the most respected practising Dominas in the country. She is Ms. Marina Black, fetishist, visual artist and epitome of female power – and empowerment. This Montreal-born one-of-a-kind beauty has made Toronto, Ontario, her chosen home since an early age: but she is known as one of the premier latex enthusiasts throughout North America.

She grew up in Toronto, and describes her formative years as “living in a typically strict Portuguese household” (she speaks the language fluently), where expectations to excel were placed on her from both family and school teachers alike. “I never really fit in, though, with any identifiable group. Excelling at school was frowned upon by my peers”, she said. “I would have to say that High School was my ‘coming out’ party. Up until that point, my best friends were books.” She poured over text after text, for all intents and purposes teaching herself how to read, write and speak perfect English. She had a special interest and passion for Greek mythology and Egyptian history, and many a night was spent in fascination and appreciation of the ancient tales and lessons.  By the age of seven, she was deeply attracted to the aesthetic of the woman of power (Hatshepsut, the only female Pharaoh, for instance) she was learning about, and equally realized her proficiency and ability to absorb and maintain knowledge was far beyond those of an equal age. By the time she reached her teenage years, she knew she had to embark on a path set of her own choosing. Her parents chastised her for her chosen attire while attending school (she was drawn to the “punk” and Goth” alternative fashion culture), and she did extremely well in school despite what others may have thought of her “trappings”.

Marina_Selects -31The attraction to being empowered as a woman began to manifest itself during this “teenage rebellious” time. After experimenting with both submissive and dominant roles with boyfriends, she quickly realized that “bottoming was not (my) thing”. She was fortunate enough to have a long-term boyfriend whon was quite fine always taking the submissive role – and her education and experience as a Domina started to increase exponentially. She started to educate herself in everything to do with SM with the same passion and drive in which she lovingly worshipped the Greek goddesses of her literary childhood. She recalls with a smile the first time someone ever approached her, asking her ”if she was a Dominatrix.” She knew then exactly what path she wanted to take in this life.

“By the time I reached my 20’s, I was beyond experimenting,” she said. “I learned very early on that being an ‘evil bitch’ and a ‘girly-girl’ were not mutually exclusive. To this day I can proudly say I remain extremely wicked but exquisitely soft and feminine.”

She had already started boldly into the professional SM world by the time she entered University - during that era, a most uncertain but incredibly courageous step for most to take at such a formative age – but not for her. She has, therefore, been a recognizable force within the Toronto and Eastern Canadian SM communities for well over two decades.

Her chosen style of Dominance is not for everyone and certainly not for the faint of heart: she offers a complete and totally immersive experience in all forms of the art of female domination – but she does not open her doors (or even a dialogue) with just anyone or everyone that approaches her. She has an extensive and intensive screening process for potential supplicants and makes no apologies for being so selective. “I’m not the most ‘popular’ professional by choice,” she said. “I am quite specific in what I do.” She points out with crystal clarity that she is “not a menu item Domina” and the clientele that is fortunate enough to pass through the initial screening process can be assured of a very heavy, exacting and completely enveloping scene.

Marina_Selects -10“I was a leather girl when I started, growing up in a leather town,” she said. “At one time, Northbound Leather was the only supplier in town and, naturally, everyone involved in the scene relied on them for their clothes and toys – me included.” Latex was not on her radar – and was extremely limited in supply, and even then what was available was not quite of the standard one would find in large European centers. By the early 1990’s, though, she started noticing and taking a great interest in “some really beautiful latex pieces” she would see in various magazines and online. She describes herself as a “very physical Domina” and realized very quickly that latex wear allowed her to move more freely and expertly when involved in a session. Latex didn’t curb her range of motion: “Latex loves your body when you’re engaged in a physical and heavy scene. What’s more, my own collared pet further exposed me to a fresh perspective on latex used in tandem with heavy and sensual play. He has most definitely been my muse.”

She has been a featured participant in several of the largest latex-focused fetish events (the annual Northbound Leather event in Toronto, for instance, and most recently turned heads and gained a new following from the younger fetish crowd for her performance at the famous New York-based Rubber Ball as an invited participant). There are few in North America with the dedication and knowledge of the latex aesthetic – and few can wear it with such a combination of femininity and sensuality combined with absolute power and control.

Marina_Selects -15In addition to being recognized as one of the latex world’s primary champions (especially in Toronto), Ms. Black is passionate about her art. “I’m totally addicted to bondage,” she said. “Everything to do with it, from rope work to fully inflatable body bags and sleep sacks, I’m in love with it!” She admits metal restraints are employed as a part of her repertoire – but she prefers the ambiance, anticipation and even delicious apprehension that occurs when engaging in wrapping a submissive up completely in ropes. “By the time they’re completely immobilized, I’ve taken the time to make sure they are comfortable with what is about to happen to them, building up the suspense and the sensuality of it all. They know they’re safe in my hands – even though they’re not going anywhere until I decide to release them and let them know they’re allowed to leave.” She loves being able to create what she describes as a “sensation overload” in her play – each client that comes for an SM experience in her chambers (Note: she is one of the very few professionals to boast both access to one of the most infamous establishments in the world, the Patricia Marsh House of Domination, as well as her own extremely well-equipped private studios) is guaranteed to appreciate her efforts, her time, and attention to detail. She is truly a “throwback”: she has a good base of dedicated clients and followers whom she considers to be “good friends” as well as exceptional devotees. This is rare: she isn’t seduced necessarily by the power of the almighty dollar, but by ensuring that each person that spends quality time with her will wish to be welcome back because of her insistence on a high degree of realism – and dedication to providing that authentic atmosphere and experience.

To that end, she describes herself as “much more of a physical Domina than a psychological one”. The implication is obvious: the bondage and discipline experience is far more tenable; far less fantasy; and easily more memorable. Her clients never leave her presence with the notion (or confusion) that she is “simply a professional doing her job.” This attention to detail and the care that she takes to treat each client with a high degree of genuine respect and authenticity, indeed, separates her from most of her peers. “It doesn’t matter what vocation you decide to practice,” she said. “To be exceptional at what you do, you have to love what you do – and I only do what I love.

Marina_Selects -34Ms. Marina Black also has a vocation outside of her professional domination practice. Since the year 1992, she has been trained in and is a much sought-after practitioner as a professional piercing artist. She also is proficient and popular as an Aromatherapist, and has even developed some of her own mixtures and cremes that have helped a myriad of people with a myriad of maladies. Both of these talents and skills blend well and help to compliment her as a Domina – and she is quite capable of combining all of her worlds, when needed, for those individuals who can appreciate her attentions.

Whether she is delivering an expert whipping or caning, planning and executing an extended bondage situation or delivering an abject lesson using one of her beloved electro-stimulation devices, there are none whom are permitted within her inner circle who would disagree that she definitely ranks among the world’s best as a direct, stern and dedicated Domina. “Just because someone chooses to spend quality time with a professional, it doesn’t make the experience any less real,” she said. “That is simply the way it has to be: Real!

Top 10 underground club event themes

25|
June
2009 | 11:41 am

theme(3)You might have noticed by now that most underground club events all seem to have one thing in common: a theme. While having a theme does not necessarily mean that your event is going to be a success, it can make the event more fun.
Themes are great for a number of reasons. First, they allow people to dress up in what would be considered costumes by outsiders to the underground club scene. That means we get to have Halloween year-round! Many people in the underground club scene are already very creative and dramatic, and dressing per a theme gives them the opportunity to further express themselves.
Themed events will commonly have other aspects that coordinate with the theme, such as live performances, movies playing in the background, and decorations to set the scene. Secretroom.net is especially thorough when it comes to decorating the club to match the theme. I love how I can go to the Jungle on a regular basis and it always looks different.
Below is my top 10 list of the most popular themes for underground club events and examples of events past.
  1. Pirate. This is one of the most popular themes today. The success of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies is partly to blame, but I think it is safe to say that the underground culture has always had a certain appreciation for pirates. Perhaps we feel like pirates compared to everyone else? Last Saturday, a new event called RITUAL chose pirate as its theme, and featured the Syrens of the South burlesque troupe performing pirate burlesque. Now that’s a way to kick things off with a bang.
  2. Medical – This is an old club favorite. Medical and fetish go together like rubber gloves and talcum powder. Anything white or with a medical cross will work for this theme, but feel free to get creative. One of the upcoming Skin Two parties will have a medical theme.
  3. Fairytale/Fantasy - This theme can encompass a wide variety of things, from mythological creatures to well known fictional characters. This theme also provides a good opportunity for group costumes. I had some friends that attended Secretroom.net’s Fairytale Fantasy Ball; they all looked amazing in their take of Alice in Wonderland costumes. The other upcoming Skin Two party will have this theme.
  4. Military/Uniform - This is another old fetish favorite. The deceased Kink Patrol always had a uniform theme. Recently, Secretroom.net hosted a Military Boot Fetish. Almost everyone was dressed up in uniforms, camo with dog tags, or boots and gas masks. There was a performance resembling a prisoner interrogation, and there were military movies playing in the background. It was awesome!
  5. Apocalyptic/Futuristic - For the cybergoth/sci-fi nerd in all of us! Anything shiny or metallic or sci-fi looking works for a theme like this. Gas masks and biohazard symbols are perfect. This theme used to be more common, but these days you do see a lot more costume-y type themes than cybergoth. The out of town event Purgatory, which had its final event a few months ago, used to do themes like this.
  6. Vinyl/PVC/latex/rubber/leather - This is a more generic fetish theme, but not a strict dress code. Anything that is tight and looks like one of those materials works. The upcoming Skin Two is first and foremost one of these themes, since Skin Two Clothing is a line of vinyl clothing. It’s fairytale and medical themes are secondary.
  7. Carnival/Circus - This is one of my favorite themes to dress up for! It gives me the opportunity to wear dramatic face make-up and sequins and bold prints. Any circus performer would make a good model for dress, whether it is a clown, a tightrope walker, a sword swallower or fire breather, or even the ring master himself! The Secretroom.net CybeRaver was themed Carnival of Chaos in April; then a week later Phobia had the theme Carnival of Kink. It was a fun challenge to try to come up with two different outfits back to back. Both events had decorations and live performances from circus freaks, but Secretroom.net impressed me more by having aerialists dangling from the ceiling.
  8.  Asian – This theme is good because it encompasses things like geishas and ninjas. Kimonos, Asian prints, fans, all black, weapons; feel free to get creative. Secretroom.net hosted a Geisha art show party earlier this year. Performances included geishas and a fan dance by Defenz Mechanizm, weapons demonstrations, and there were vendors selling kimonos.
  9. Horror (Zombie, Monster) – This is another favorite theme of mine. After working at a haunted house last year, and being a zombie extra this year, I really got into looking scary and disgusting. Secretroom.net’s Flesh + Fire turned out to be quite fleshy indeed, with an fashion show by AMF Korsets that featured models hooked into their outfits and another guy being suspended throughout the show. The stage was decorated with fake limbs and bloody knives and other weaponry dangling from above. It reminded me of the haunted house.
  10. Seasonal - Each season will usually see at least one of these themes, such as summer/fire or winter/ice. Secretroom.net hosted the Frosted Fetish Ball last winter.  Flesh + Fire also seemed to tie in with the summer season, which I’m sure was no mistake.

Now that you’ve read about the top 10 underground club event themes, be sure to check on my blog “10 tips for dressing for themed events“.

Leather Mystics

24|
June
2009 | 8:28 pm

black_leather_bodice_2Erik von Gutenberg recommends Leather Mystics! Where the “leather dreams” become reality, best quality and beautifully designs.

Leather Mystics – With 13+ yrs of experience working with high-end leathers, Robert Wesner along with his partner Leah Rusche work to design some of the sexiest and most original works in leather.  As more and more discriminating Fetish fans set higher standards, Wesner rises to the task combining the flair and flavors of Renaissance, medieval, gothic, punk, Victorian and fantasy creating unique looks many have never seen before. Particularly popular are the leather ankle and wrist shackles with hand-forged hardware- a local blacksmith makes them for Leather Mystics.

“Other than your imagination, there are no limits.  This has been somewhat our unspoken motto.  I try to design everything as if it was never made before.  I’ve seen so many other leather shops that get into one field or another only to just end up copying what’s already being done!  Motorcycle leathers all look the same.  Bondage leather all looks the same.  Doesn’t ANYONE have anything NEW??”, says Robert. “I’m making shackle cuffs now with hand-forged hardware – it’s not some ‘break-through’ technology – but it’s something I don’t see anyone else doing.  Like our Pirate Bodice – it’s just a leather bodice… but the back slopes down into a full train of flowing leather – you should see a woman walk across the room in one of these!  Talk about DRAMATIC!!  Everyone raves about vampire movies and fantasy movies and how great the costuming is – I watch those movies and say, ‘I can do that…’ or ‘that’s neat, but it would look even better if…’ and off I go crunching designs in my head….  It has to be better, sexier, or just different – we’re not another import warehouse that hangs whatever Taiwan sent us.”

Von Gutenberg Weekly toy review self bondage time lock

Erik von Gutenberg recommends the weekly toy review with Mistress Darkniis. She knows the toys as no other and we are proud to have her on the blog reviewing toys & accessories!

MEO – Self Bondage Time Lock

Our German friends at MEO have come up with a design for those of you that practice self-bondage; or for the couples that want to play with physics.

MEO has designed a self bondage time lock made of high quality stainless steel. This device is quite compact and heavy duty.

bondge_lock_meo

There are two attachment points – so if you are creative this can be for a hog tie! You have a maximum of one and a half hours to enjoy your restrained state until the lock releases you!

How does it work? Physics. There are two holes drilled in the top of the lock. You hold it vertically and fill it with water. The device then goes in the freezer. The top pin is removable – so when the device thaws – the pin will thaw inside the ice and eventually come free – releasing your bonds.

My tester suggested doing a couple of trial runs before you want to actually use it in a scene to generally see what your thaw time is going to be. It can vary according to room and body temperature.

With a little imagination – this gem from MEO has a lot of possibilities!

The Partnership of Grand Illusion and Stark Reality

June

tn-01242SM used to be considered the crème de la crème of sensual expression. When, and why, did SM turn into just another internet peepshow?

Are there really women out there who just can’t get enough of men sending them a shot of their genitals? Are there really men out there who can’t get enough of women sending them a shot of their breasts? Are these people so incredibly facially deformed that they feel they need to make up for it by sending total strangers (in most cases) incredibly detailed photographs of their gonads and bust lines? How utterly pedantic, and how diametrically opposed to everything SM was supposed to be about. Nudity is a privilege earned by both the Dominant and the submissive. It appears, judging by the amount of mostly-naked “professional SM” adverts out there on the world wide web, that blatant exposing of one’s self is considered somehow “normal” and “appropriate”. Whatever happened to the old adage that it’s more sensual, and sexy, to “leave something to the imagination?

In the years prior to the advent of mass communication via desktop computers, truly trained and experienced Dominas would be dressed from neck to toe in something that made them feel powerful: showing any bare flesh was a right their boy or girl had to earn. It isn’t the nudity of the male or female body that instantly appeals to us, per se, and it is absolutely true that there are some dedicated naturists in our world who prefer to be clad in nothing but the very air they breathe, even when engaging in a sadomasochistic activity.

But for the vast majority of people involved in our peculiar little institution, and as has always been the case, fetishism is an integral part of the illusion of consensual slavery. It is an absolute truth that unless both the dominant and submissive invest and believe in the illusion of ownership they are mutually creating, the reality can and will quickly crumble. Fetish wear, gloves, shoes, boots, lingerie, etc. are all a standard part of the illusion that is a consensual power exchange to be sure – but it’s the actions and attitudes of both the Dominant and submissive partners who sustain the reality.

lady-j-latex-catsuit-two1It is said, and with some factual basis, that it must have been a man who invented the high heeled shoes and boots that even the most basic businesswoman will don as a part of her day to day uniform. Leather attire has always been viewed as a symbol of sensual confidence, for men and women both. There are man-made materials today, some resembling even the shiniest latex or the supplest of leathers that are affordable for even the most casual of SM practitioners.

Through observation and through experience, I can confidently declare that the Domina who advertises herself through an online profile or in a contact magazine and who dresses the part (and thereby creates the aura of initial illusion) will win the majority of responses from men and women who seek them out, whether they’re “professional” or not. At least, that was certainly true in the days before instant accessibility. The era of the internet has succeeded in destroying forever the art of approach, and has reduced the usual rules of courtship into something rapid, vapid and vulgar.

Today, anyone with a fairly reliable camera, a computer, a nice pair of boots and a cheap dime-store whip, dressed only in a bra and panties or (in some men’s cases), tight fitting briefs and bare-chested for all the world to see, somehow assumes it is “acceptable” and “tasteful” to demand to be referred to as ‘Mistress’ or ‘Master’ and taken seriously as some kind of experienced SM practitioner.

The advertisements that do catch the eye of the most dedicated submissive though still tend to be those which show a well dressed, elegant and sensual Dominant. Leather, latex and PVC garments can be elegant as well as sensual. At the very least, being fully dressed on a contact advertisement shows infinitely more class than one that leaves little to the imagination – or nothing to imagine at all.

lady-j-latex-catsuit-onePublications such as Marquis America, at least, are dedicated to (and bringing back) the esteemed “look” and feel of the dedicated Domina and SM practitioner of old. There is an elegance, for instance, in seeing the visage of someone such as Marquis Adult Toy Reviewer and writer Mistress Darkniis finely attired in her chosen latex wear – and covered completely from head to toe. Mistress Darkniis is a Domina who truly understands the allure – and power – of the completely-clad female form. She uses that powerful imagery to maximum effect: She is developing quite a following ”Down East” amongst latex fetishists especially. Lady J (formerly of Halifax, Nova Scotia, but is as of this writing en route to a new life in Toronto, Ontario), pictured in a gorgeous full-length latex catsuit, full mask, red latex belt and red boots to the right, can be at times somewhat more liberal with the amount of skin she will show to a play partner – but it’s usually reliant on how much that particular partner has earned that privilege. It isn’t a “right” to see her bare shoulders if they haven’t earned the honor of such a reward during a Dominance encounter. Other contributors to this site, and to Marquis America itself, assuredly have similar, “old school” attitudes and sophistocated tastes in what they wear and how they choose to wear it. All of them have one thing in common, however:

It’s all about the “class”. It’s all about the “elegance”. It’s all about bringing back the illusion of absolute power in feminine form by dressing the part in a haunting, sensual and yet suggestive, realistic fashion. There’s a reason why such things are referred to as a Fetish, after all.

Live out your fetish fantasy at Bar C

18|
June
2009 | 11:31 am

interior_1s1Erik von Gutenberg recommends Bar C in Los Angeles.

Located in a tiny strip mall in the heart of little Tokyo, you can find Bar C, a quirky tapas and wine bar and restaurant modeled after the “meido Kafue”, or “maid cafés”, popular in Japan. Visitors are invited to indulge in PG-rated fetishes as waitresses, scantily clad in frilly French maid costumes, role play as your servant for the night. Men are clearly the target demographic, but curiously, the frou-frou food and drink options seems more in line with the taste of female clientele.

There’s a few bottled beer options, and a decent amount of sake, but this place is first and foremost a wine bar. The selection is mind-boggling, both in assortment and price. Don’t come here expecting any pedestrian wines, as the cheapest option is around $25, and priciest bottle will set you back a cool $2000. There’s also a large menu of specialty cocktails that carry suggestive names like the “Orgasm” and the “Climax” in keeping with the theme. They cost between 10-12 dollars apiece. but the servings looked meager.

The food selection is difficult to categorize, and can only be described as a Japanese interpretation of French cuisine. The food is mostly tapas, but there are a few full size meals, including some Italian dishes, and a few blatantly Japanese options as well. I didn’t really understand it, either. Like the wine, the food is quite expensive.

The lay out at Bar C is much like a theater. It’s a tiny place consisting of one long, rectangular room with tables lined against the wall, directly across from three massive flat screens hung above the bar. Every seat is aimed straight at the nearby TVs, making it a surprisingly good venue for watching sports. The sound system, screens, and floor plan will draw you into any game that’s on.

If you stick mainly to the well worn paths of Hollywood and Santa Monica for bar-hopping, but you’re in the mood to try something outside of your comfort zone, then by all means, give Bar C a try. Try to go when there’s a game on, as the layout is conducive for watching sports. At the very least, It’s certainly a departure from your typical LA bar. Tacky, yes. Expensive, without a doubt. But Bar C is the kind of place that everyone should visit once, because it’s unlike any other bar you’re liable to visit in this side of Japan.

Alige Corsets from Italy

16|
June
2009 | 1:58 pm

alige1Erik von Gutenberg recommends ALIGE corsets from Italy, beautiful, desired and unique designs. Take a look!

As a young girl Alice Pasquini saw the film “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” on television and was enchanted by the images of girls in corsets and bloomers. From this early interest came a fascination with vintage clothes and costumes, and then a love for the dark-gothic-fetish scene, where again corsets were central to the style.
Alice sewed her first corset at 15, as she couldn’t afford to buy one and was already sewing dresses for herself and her friends. She says it was terrible, as she didn’t have a pattern and chose the fabric most notoriously difficult to use in corset-making, PVC!

Looking at her work just ten years later, I’m willing to bet it wasn’t that bad. Either that or she came a long way very fast, because her corsets today are exquisitely made and wonderfully designed.

It turns out that both her mother and grandmother sewed corsets, and as she looked into their work she was able to find boning and patterns to make more authentic corsets. By age 16 or 17 Alice was able to buy books on historical fashion and corsetry on ebay, and learn more about the craft that has become her work, corset-making!

Throughout college she spent her free time studying fashion and design and preparing fashion shows; in Autumn of 2007 she was able to become a full-time tailor and corsetmaker.

alige3She loves the dramatic shape corsets make possible and the way a true steel-boned corset can create spectacular curves in the wearer’s body. She hopes to help people in her home country, Italy, become more aware of the rich world of contemporary corsetry and the possibilities for fierce style the modern corset offers.

In addition, she has just updated her site with an English text page, for readers who don’t speak Italian!

MARQUIS AMERICA weekly toy review Sensory Deprivation Hood

reviewbanner1Erik von Gutenberg recommends the weekly toy review with Mistress Darkniis. She knows the toys as no other and we are proud to have her on the blog reviewing toys & accessories!

The Church of Sinvention – The Original Sensory Deprivation Hood

The Mother of Sinvention has sent us some more lovelies to review – many thanks to you m’lady!

This time it is the most beautiful piece – the Sensory Deprivation Hood…

I had two individuals try this hood out. It looks like it may work for breath control but my hard-core breath control player says that is a “no-go”. It is certainly tight fitting though and the sensory deprivation addict that I tried the hood on loves it and says it is hard to catch your breath. Go figure!

This is yet another product that is very high quality. Made of soft, padded leather it fits the head snugly. It laces up the back of the head and cross-buckles in two places with the usual quality locking buckles that Sinvention uses. There is also a locking collar at the base of the hood so that your bratty subbie can’t remove it until you say so!

sensory_dep_hood

My test subjects state that you should try with and without the straps tightened up. One did not like the added pressure on the eye sockets after the buckles were tightened and locked.

You are in a completely leather clad (oh the smell!), padded, floating space after the hood is put on. You must concentrate on keeping your breathing controlled as you are breathing through a small hole on the front of the hood through your mouth. You may want to have a hand-signal pre-negotiated as your subject will not be able to hear you. You will however be able to hear them through the breathing hole.

Both my test subjects thoroughly enjoyed the sensory deprivation experience with a big “thank-you Mistress” at the end.

The Mother of Sinvention has many wonderful and sinful things to explore – confess your sins and repent – floggers available at Sinvention!

JT Stockroom Los Angeles California

2807sunsetErik von Gutenberg recommends JT Stockroom. Stockroom has 2 retail outlets, one in Los Angeles and Stormy Leather in San Francisco. If you are looking for great latex and leather fashion designs or simply for some toys to play these locations are a must go to!
The Stockroom was founded in1988, when 21-year-old college student, Stockroom company founder Joel Tucker, began making quality bondage products at an affordable price, something he found lacking in the fetish market. Tucker started distributing his hand-crafted items through a mail-order catalog, and soon after established Stockroom.com, which is known as one of the first e-commerce companies in existence.

From its humble beginnings in Tucker’s college apartment, The Stockroom has grown into a corporation that employs over 60 people in Los Angeles and San Francisco, with two retail outlets and a beautiful 32,000-square-foot manufacturing, production, and office space at its Los Angeles headquarters. The vertically integrated facility combines leather and latex production, shipping, receiving and warehousing with design, executive and sales offices, and a retail boutique that in 2008 was named “Best Fetish Store” by Los Angeles magazine
The Stockroom’s key acquisitions include Daedalus Publishing, a publishing company specializing in nonfiction alternative-sexuality books, Syren Latex, a top manufacturer of fetish clothing, and Stormy Leather, a long-established brand featuring sexy corsets and fetish wear.

emp-jtStockroom’s Syren and Stormy Leather divisions have become trusted resources for production studio services. The clientele list includes videos and photo shoots for Jessica Alba, Madonna, Britney Spears, The Pussycat Dolls, Nine Inch Nails and No Doubt, among others Syren Couture’s custom, handcrafted garments have been featured in films such as Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Batman and Robin, Batman Returns, Men in Black II The Watchman as well as on popular television shows such as True Blood, Ugly Betty, and CSI: Miami.

Tucker entered the adult industry with a vision: He believed that sex and kink products could be designed, marketed and delivered in a more intelligent, civilized and beautiful way, using high quality products, an attention to aesthetics, honest communication, superior customer service and unique creativity.

The Stockroom has always reflected the personal values of its founder, striving to fulfill the sexual product needs of all its customers in an approachable, respectful and nonjudgmental way. To this day, The Stockroom strives to articulate acceptance of and appreciation for the wide diversity of human sexual expression.

Party Report Fetish Factory Party 14th anniversary

13|
June
2009 | 1:33 pm

ff2aErik von Gutenberg recommends the Fetish Factory party in Fort Lauderdale, the best Fetish Party in North America.

I say this with all sincerity – I’ve been doing this for so long that nothing really shocks me anymore.  It takes a lot to impress this guy when it comes to fetish events, FF or otherwise.  Perhaps I’m jaded. Here at the heart of the FF company for over 5 years, I have experienced my fair share of mind-blowing party moments, many that are on par with my expectations, and even a handful of duds.  Like I said, it’s been years and it’s really no surprise.

In February 2004, I had my first day in the belly of the beast – the tiny, disorganized room hidden inside the FF store where the magic happens.  The truth is we have a disproportionately small base of operations in comparison to the insanely large events that we somehow manage to pull off – if you think we are some enormous company with 100+ employees, you would be shocked at just how teensy and family-run we are.

That same year, Glenn hosted a single Anniversary Fetish Party nightclub event at The Copa in Fort Lauderdale.  It was the 9-Year Anniversary – the last single party Anniversary event in the history of the company.  It was a blast sporting some incredible entertainment including Chain Goddess Brandy, Masuimi Max, Rebecca and more.  I don’t think anyone was ready for what was to come the following year.

ff1a1At the beginning of 2005, Glenn brainstormed a huge all-weekend event as something bigger and badder for the 10-Year milestone.  I think everyone thought that he was crazy.  Well, he certainly is, but we assumed he had bitten off more than he could chew – after all, he always says that a single nightclub event takes everything he’s got, so how could he possibly consider throwing three in a row?

Glenn also talked a lot of madness about designating a host hotel and putting the crowd together for the entire weekend under one roof.  This sounded like a brilliant idea, but somehow also a bureaucratic and public relations nightmare.  I’m sure I wasn’t alone when I pictured a hotel half booked with fetish people and half booked with god-fearing families.

Needless to say, Glenn and FF pulled off the impossible in 2005.  How does he do it, you might ask?  Well, 5 pots of coffee a day to get started.  The guy never stops to breathe.

The 10-Year Weekend went off with nary a hitch and was a massive success.  The main event boasted a roof-splitting 2,000+ attendance.  FF set a high benchmark for a three-day fetish party experience worldwide that has been imitated but never duplicated in the international scene.

ff3aSince that year and every year since, Glenn, the FF store, and the promotional machine of which I am an intimate part – we have all been raising the bar.  Better venues, bigger sponsors, great entertainment, more parties, smart promotions, and of course a vibe that you get nowhere else in the world. FF really stands alone when it comes to an all-weekend fetish event. If you are coming from out of town, we really take care of every possible aspect for you from accommodations to transportation so that you can party instead of worry.

The kicker in 2009 was a total hotel takeover.  We took over an entire 4-star Sheraton hotel in short order, selling out every room in the massive 13 floor hotel way ahead of schedule – a whole two months before the party.  This was way ahead of schedule. The interest was so great that we even took over a large portion of the Hilton hotel across the street.  The “total hotel takeover” concept on this sort of scale was a first in the international fetish community.

ff18aI left work at the bustling FF store on Friday evening very much excited about the weekend.  I picked up a trunk-load of alcohol on the way home, packed a huge case full of toys and another full of clothes, and headed over to the hotel to check in.  You could feel the energy in the air as you walked in the door.  Something unreal was going to play out this weekend and I was already on the edge of my front row seat.

We were lucky with the hotel.  The staff was very much fetish friendly – they never made us feel strange or uncomfortable no matter how bizarre we probably seemed to them on the surface.  They were 100% hospitable all weekend long without fail.  They were good to our crowd and in turn we were good to them.

Friday night at the hotel I met with friends, moved between hotel rooms getting ready, and marched onto the bus which whisked me away to Jackhammer for an extreme night of fetish partying.

This venue was setup like a maze with a lot of areas in shadows – too many hot little secrets going on throughout the club.  The front room was probably the best kept secret.  Here I found more space to stretch out, play, enjoy and drink or just get some time on a stool to cool my feet from the vicious heels I was wearing.  Heavy, creative bondage, crops and floggers, footworship, and dommes with strap-ons seemed to be the call of the night.  There was certainly plenty to ogle even if you are a bit to shy to get into the thick of it.

In the front room, I witnessed beautiful Samar in a breathtaking suspension show that was more like a work of art than a fetish performance.  In two chapters of the one show, Samar moved from suspension by hooks in her back to hooks embedded in the skin over her knee.  It was insane and definitely a command performance that I will never forget.  This was definitely the heat and energy of the extreme party – a sanctuary for kinky sexuality.  This is the unlimited event where you are encouraged to display your darkest, nastiest fantasy in front of a room of voyeurs who lovingly appreciate your perversions.  They’ll lap it up and come back for more.

ff14aBack to the hotel, I hung out poolside at the official afterparty.  This night wasn’t going to end until the sun was up.  Back to my room, I hung out with friends and proceeded to drink my weight in Bombay Sapphire and orange juice until well into the next morning.

Noonish on Saturday, I woke up with the worst hangover of my life to date.  I crawled across the hall and got some Excedrin from a friend.  I was thankful that at least she was prepared for the eventualities of this debaucherous weekend.  I was dehydrated, starving, in one hell of a bad mood and my head felt like a Gallagher-smashed watermelon.  I ended up missing a big part of the pool party simply because I wanted to go off-premise and get some hearty food in an attempt to fix myself up.  I will say the bit of time I sent at the pool party was pretty fantastic.  It was bigger and better than ever, and the little bit of rain that came and went didn’t really slow anyone down.  I can’t wait until next year.  I’m going to get a crazy swimsuit together to wear and slather on some of that SPF 75 sunscreen, and you will see me poolside for hours flirting with all the beautiful people.

ff6aSaturday night took place at Purgatory which is the usual venue for FF monthly parties, so this one was simply titled “Alter Ego” and was meant to be a taste of the tradition and ritual that we do once a month of the second Saturday.  This party was very similar to a monthly, only a bit bigger.  This was the party where I expected to see all of my friends and have a good, social time.  No bad surprises – this is exactly what I got.  It was a great party in a cool venue. It was packed yet comfortably full so that there was plenty of space if you want to dance, chill or play.  Purgatory is a club that really knows about fetish parties as FF has been there every month for the better part of two years.

While I was there Saturday, I witnessed a great performance by top fetish models Ruby Luster and Angela Ryan.  In this show, Ruby had been given a huge gift which stood wrapped on the stage.  As this curvaceous beauty unwrapped the present, out came her new toy – a masked latex sex doll with Angela Ryan underneath the rubber skin – her mouth permanently agape in an “O” position.  Ruby put on her strap-on harness and went to town, bending sex toy Angela over or filling her mouth with the shiny latex cock.

The Saturday afterparty was even better attended than the night before which increased the trend that the weekend was building momentum with each night and each new party.  I played the booze a bit more conservative on Saturday night since I had learned my lesson with the gin n’ juice from the night before.  I have to remember to pace myself accordingly. Slow and steady wins the race.

ff27aSunday, I woke up late and met up with friends to round up some food.

After a brief but passionate kinky midday interlude, I spent the better part of the day resting, relaxing and socializing over some cold beers with friends.  As the big main event hour drew closer, I snuck away to my room to start putting together my final outfit of the weekend.  Everyone getting ready for the big finale is quite a spectacle unto itself.  This was it – the biggest and baddest party of the whole weekend with nearly 2,000 expected in attendance.

Sunday, I arrived at the club via the bus shuttle skipping over the car line piling up for the underprepared valet parking and waited only a brief moment in the door line before pretty much strutting right up into the massive venue.

As I entered the door, my jaw dropped.  I’ve seen a lot, and there are very few moments where I really feel that original excitement about a party that I used to feel in the beginning when attending these events, but this was definitely one of those rare moments.

A few come to mind like the back porch at the Halloween Ball in 2007 at Revolution, or the huge crowd that shocked us and packed the house after the hurricane in 2005 at Club Cinema, but I daresay the main room of the freshly reopened Coliseum (now known as Club Premier) takes the blue ribbon.

ff15aThis place was decorated to the hilt, and I’m talking top to bottom.  The place was comfortably packed and the partygoers were blowing up in time to the pulse of the music.  The main event had come alive.

The lights, the booming sound, the inflatable decorations in the rafters, the music, the madness, the partygoers – it was at least incredible, and at best the fetish party experience of a lifetime, and this was only the start.

The rooms in this venue just go on and on forever.  After you have explored all the action in one room, you can move on to the next.  There’s no end to the fun and trouble you can get into at this party. You can circle the rooms in this venue all night long and never get tired of the party action even for a moment.

Outside the main room, you could also enjoy the lounge where the music wasn’t quite as loud.  People ordered drinks from the bar, complimented each others’ outfits and generally got into some naughty trouble.  Behind the main stage, you could enter into another room with its own separate dancefloor, bars and DJ – basically another nightclub unto itself, and the home of the old Venus Room back in the day.  Behind this room, there was an open-air porch with it’s own bar and its own DJ.  Outside, I caught a fire show by Kikimora who spun fire poi, then a bo staff with the ends lit, and then a pair of long, flaming claws which seemed to mesmerize her audience to no end.  She was a very skipped artist and performer and one hell of a hot beauty to behold.

ff13aBack inside, I witnessed a multi-sexual fetish performance by beautiful queer couple Matt Havoc and Robin Rotten who joined FF’s own tattooed fetish diva Rebecca on stage.  This show was simply incredible.  At one moment Robin bent over Matt on stage, and the next moment, Rebecca took her place behind Robin simulating the sort of kinky sexual energy that really embodies this pansexual scene.  Robin kissed Matt deeply and passionately – it was so sincere.  Rebecca knelt down in front of them, masturbating her enormous latex cock as she watched.  It was such a spectacular microcosm of the fetish scene in so many ways. Definitely a breathtaking spectacle for anyone in the audience regardless of their individual sexual orientation.

There were so many shows going on all weekend but I only managed to catch a tiny handful of them. When there’s a show on stage, I’m likely making my rounds of the club, flirting, playing, and catching up with fetish friends, both old and new. Some people do go to the parties for the performers, but I am there to mingle – to see and be seen, and sometimes to get into some kinky trouble. For me, that’s what it’s all about.

Sunday night’s afterparty was also well off the charts and stayed packed until the sun started to come up and the DJ turned on the lights and turned off the music.  Fetish friends mingled and flirted on the poolside loungers, others swam in the pool in their latex.  Some got familiarized in the hot tub.  Whatever your poison, this was a great night to be on the scene.  No one was in a hurry to run off to bed at 6am – even though this was the end of official parties, it really felt like it was just the start.  Everyone went up into the hotel rooms and continued to party well until the sun was high and warm in the sky Monday morning.

All in all, I would say that Glenn and the entire FF company from Donna to Rebecca to the store staff to the graphics department to the promotional machine – the FF company has really set the bar high this year.  We worked tirelessly, and you, the partygoer, have shown in a way that you appreciate our hard work by partying hard with us year-in and year-out.

ff21aWithout question, FF has somehow managed to throw it bigger and better this year than in any year in the history of this company, and it’s all because of you.  In all honesty, the attendees made this the best one ever by coming out in droves.  Even though times may be tough and money may be tighter than ever before, let there be no doubt – we still love to party, and nothing is going to stop us from doing what we love.  We did it, and damn did we ever love doing it!

If you missed the FF Anniversary Fetish Weekend this year, you really missed out.  No offense, but shame on you.  At least you can get over here and be a part of this thing next year, and you really should.  You really, really should.

The Kinkdom of the Atlantic: A Region to Behold as an Example

12|
June
2009 | 3:00 pm

peggys-cove-village-small1When one usually thinks of “Fetish Balls”, “Fetish Nights”, “Kinky Craft Fairs”, or “SM Related Business”, the usual first thought will invariably gravitate towards larger, more populated centers.

New York City, Chicago,  Toronto, Montreal and even Los Angeles are usually considered (to most) a version of Mecca in North American SM intended destinations. Those massive cities do indeed, as has been well documented, long-established and thriving communities, and are well known for their various events and offerings.

Across North America, there are growing communites in cities from Wilmington, North Carolina to Seattle, Washington. The communities in the Alberta cities of Calgary and Edmonton, as examples, have been around a long, long time, and as those two boomtowns continue to mushroom in population, their respective societies and groups are sure to forever welcome new seekers and practitioners along the way. Even Denver, Colorado and Winnipeg, Manitoba, have dedicated, loyal artisians and afficiandos who are most welcoming of new blood amongst their midst. It goes without saying, naturally, that San Francisco and Vancouver along the West Coast could be considered the respective “Birthplaces” of SM Culture (the fomer much more than the latter, to be sure), and enthusiasts flock to the shores of the Pacific Northwest without fail for almost every event. The Marquis Fetish Night in San Francisco on July 18th at The Supper Club, for instance,  is guaranteed to attract a well-represented mix of “old school” and “new guard” SM lifestylers.

Alright: So we all know that the mega-cities in their own unique way have established various and near-legendary histories within their respective communities. But what about some of those smaller cities? Do we just dismiss them as “inferior” in the quality of sadomasochistic expression (amongst their community leaders and membership especially), just because they don’t (at first) appear to have a population base to support immersive and passionate fetishists and dedicated, educated SM facilitators?

thigh-high-boots-twoRecently, Your Humble Narrator and Only True friend had the distinct honor and privilege of participating in a rare, large community “first time” event. In point of fact, and with all bravado and self-gratification sent asunder for evermore, I was surprisingly requested not only to author, but to conduct and preside over a full Claiming Ceremony (or a “collaring”, if you’d prefer that term). The Claimant was an auburn-haired beauty (a near legend in Atlantic SM circles) known by all from Prince Edward Island to Alberta in Canada and in the United States from Maine to Pennsylvania. Her name is, simply, Lady J. Her Supplicant, no shrinking violet herself and truly the epitome and personification of the very word servant, is a striking young lady known throughout the region (by an approprietly chosen adjective rather than a proper noun) as Angelically Depraved.

lady-j-and-ad-fire-cupping-one-smallThe Ceremony went off with little a hitch, and was attended by most of the more recognizable personalities in the region. While the evenings festivities were tempered somewhat with the (earth-shattering and dismaying) news to the gathered throng that Lady J would be leaving their community to embark on a career in Toronto, one could not help but get caught up in the pageantry, the ritual, the aura, and the emotion of the proceedings. Lady J has been the very glue that has held this entire region together, as a community, for the better part of a decade – albeit and by her own emphatic word, ‘reluctantly’. While it is unmistakeable that she is considered by almost all fetish and SM enthusiasts in the region as their “Matriarch”, it is a phantom title that she has never been comfortable with, nor has she entirely embraced it in a self-serving standpoint. Everything that she has done – opening up a private SM club; coordinating events and evenings; relied up to be constantly objective and mete out communal justice when necessary; etc. – has been a tireless and selfless service to the entire community, and it is without question that the region is going to miss her teaching, her guidance … and her Love … when the fateful day arrives towards the end of June when she embarks on her new career, and life, in Toronto.

I have personally seen more than one community fall to pieces in an unending cascade of bitterness, recrimination, ego and in some cases down-right ill-will, when a highly respected and revered community leader has fallen, or departs. Truly, the Atlantic Region can be held up as a shining example of the right way in which a community can continue to evolve and develop when they have lost their lynchpin and figurehead personality.

rubber-waterfallOf course, the Atlantic Region (like all communities) has their share of challenges and exasperations, egos that need to be assauged and disagreements that must be addressed. However, dear friends, I must confess: I have traveled and been witness to dozens of communities in a myriad of North American centers, on two oceans and everywhere in between, and never have I encountered a large community that was as close-knit, respectful of each other and shared (dare I say it) such a feeling of … Love. There is no question that it is the undying efforts of Lady J and her uncompromising insistance on providing that community a “home”, as well as instilling a healthy respect and desire for continued education and awareness, that is the largest single factor in shaping the very healthy future of SM along the East Coast. Before you start to think this missive is all about the “hero worship” of a single woman, allow me to introduce even more positive influences that have also contributed to the cohesion of their SM society, particularly in Halifax but also including the other Atlantic provinces and states.

bigd-fishing-net-smallThe Atlantic Region has some very, very gifted people: The pages of the electronic version of Marquis have featured, on one occasion, an extremely dedicated and personable gentleman who goes by the name of Big D. There are few in the area who have such a complete understanding and knowledge of rope bondage, and his flagellation skills are truly second to none. He is also the local authority on Zentai and latex full enclosure, and has a collection of gas masks and “implements of persuasion” that would put almost every “professional” Dungeon to shame. His collection of electrical apparatus and accoutrements truly is second to none. He is approachable and personable – and simply does not have as great an ego to satisfy as some of his peers may have in the larger cities. Halifax also boasts an entire plethora and highly exceptional contingent of Dominent women: Lady Lynn (who acted as the Sergeant-At-Arms for the Claiming Ceremony) is a no-nonsense, extremely engaging and highly respected Domina who has collaborated on several occasions with Lady J to help “serve” the communities needs (I am still trying to figure out exactly just what the hell an  SM Ladies Special is, but apparantly that’s somewhat of a local secret). A younger but no less determined lady who goes by the name Miss Jaded, together with her talented and passionate partner Ranger, are starting to take more of a leading role in community affairs – and while their efforts have encountered some (justified) resistance, no-one amongst their collective could fault their passion or their commitment to the community at large in helping to take over the reigns of leadership from Lady J.

halifax-communityIt was a shock and somewhat of a complete surprise to realize that good, decent people – with unassuming names such as Sailor, seaside, Dom “B” and his lovely mate, known simply to all as “Wifey of B”, Master Vadim, Lord Trystan, Krizlee and Stegral are all considered vital and integral voices within their family – and it is a family. I name but a few of the personalities I so lovingly encountered during the celebratory weekend, but all are valued, respected, cherished … and heard … when they have a voice to raise for the good of them all. I mention but a tiny contingent of the many voices that have come together to make the Atlantic Community so very strong and so very tight. In an electronic age when decorum and decency seems to fly out the metaphorical window faster than a trapped and angry hornet, it is a true joy, privilege – and I admit a surprise – to know that at least one smaller community could be held as an exalted example of just how a large community can, in fact, work – when all the talents and experiences of personalities are joined together as that single voice.

blue-zentaiIn addition to the SM Community at large, one of the best design and “cottage industry” implement manufacturers is a company simply called Halfway Creations. The company is staffed by two engaging and popular, talented women (Kate and Jeanne), and they have become reknown and their products prized and in heavy demand everywhere in the Region for their various collections. A selection of their incredible quality products can be found in virtually every SM enthusiast’s home in Atlantic Canada: their chrome-handled whips and floggers are in short supply and high demand in particular. They offer a variety of restraints and accoutrements in any number of color combinations, and the quality of their work most assuredly compares with any available in the industry. Your Humble Narrator himself has covetted a pair of leather “Shoe Locks” (in red and black leather) of a quality I’ve never encountered before. In addition to their excellent leather products, the pair are also proud to be able to offer the finest quality “Vegan Bondage” gear, crafted from durable latex rubber and extremely solid and reliable. Few SM artisians – even the larger companies – can offer such a wide selection of equipment, in different materials and in a myriad of color combinations.

car-wash-zentaiWe all know them, these people. We know that they sail our ships, drive our trucks, manage our stores. We say hello to them passing down opposite sides of the street and we wave good-night to them at the end of the day. They are our neighbors, our friends – and even in some cases our family. It is a common “bond”, you’ll pardon the pun, that all of us who have elected to pursue this peculiar proclivity, warmly share. When a community icon departs, or tragically falls, it is left to the other members of the family to pick up the teachings and the wisdom that they left them – and to do honor to that icon, and their wishes and desires, by steadfastly following in their bootsteps. In that way, they can perhaps collectively think “What would our beloved leader have done?” and act accordingly.

And in that regard, I believe there to be no finer example to be set – in this day and at this time – but the growth and evolution that is about to take place in the Atlantic Region. I firmly believe they will come together as a Family and find a way to resolve any challenges they face, together, and mutually – out of sheer respect for the wishes of their departing Matriach.

What shall be done, shall be done … for Love.

Erik von Gutenberg recommends the Cybernet Expo for everybody who wants to learn more about the adult business world and wants to network, make new friends and visit great forums and discussions.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, June 8, 2009 — Attendees for Cybernet Expo 2009 in San Francisco are encouraged to book their hotel rooms at the Golden Gateway hotel immediately, as the group’s room block is set to expire on Friday! That means this week is your last chance to get a guaranteed room at the Golden Gateway hotel for Cybernet Expo group rates. http://www.cybernetexpo.com/hotel.html

“The easiest way to get your room booked is to visit the CybernetExpo.com website and click on the ‘Hotel’ button,” explains Connor Young, President of YNOT.com, owners and operators of Cybernet Expo. “The hotel page has links to online booking, as well as the hotel’s phone number. If you call the hotel yourself, make sure to mention the group code ‘CCY’ for group rates.”

Cybernet Expo’s LAJ, the Director of Operations, says the time to delay is now over.

“I know a lot of people wait until the last minute to book a room, and guess what folks, it’s the last minute,” says LAJ. “We’d hate to have any of our supporters stuck outside the event hotel, so now’s the time to get this done.”

Cybernet Expo opens up on June 25th with the Intensive Training series of business classes, followed by the Rackco.com cocktail reception in the early evening and YNOT Opening Night party in the late evening. The Industry Insider series of panel discussions kicks off the next day, followed by the Webbilling.com Speed Networking session and D-Money’s Rock the Ball concert at the Red Devil Lounge. The show wraps up on the 27th with more classes and panels, followed by the Show & Sell Market and the closing night party at the Kink.com Armory Building.

It’s recommended that attendees check in on either the 24th or early on the 25th, and check out on the 28th. For more information about accommodations, please visit

Over 900 attend Fetish Prom in Scottsdale

10|
June
2009 | 12:15 am

download81Those in charge of security looked on with smiles and a bit of confusion as “Crazy Dave” stepped up to be frisked before entering this year’s Arizona Fetish Prom at The Venue of Scottsdale

As it turns out, there is no set protocol on searching a man wearing a giant banana costume. Crazy Dave stood smiling in the door way as security informed him he could come on through but the maracas in his hands were not allowed. After a brief conversation security saw it Dave’s way and he was allowed to keep his maracas.

Dance on banana man. Dance on.

This year’s Fetish Prom, June 6-7,  was an all night, 18+ party showcasing live music, dancing, bars, shopping and various performances.

Party goers were encouraged to express themselves through their dress. Kinky dresses, leather military suits, vintage tuxedos, gothic and bondage attire and more were just some of the fashions on display.

Arguably, the Fetish Prom is an event unlike most in the upper-class setting of downtown Scottsdale.

“I like the open mindedness of people,” Indigo Bloom said, “Since I have become more involved in the community it has shown me how judgmental I used to be.”

Bloom herself has recently begun to further explore her lifestyle.

“Currently,” she said, “I am involved in a master-slave relationship.”

Adding, “Having the courage to step beyond the fear of being judged and going out and exploring and stretching your boundaries is probably one of the most rewarding experiences you can give yourself.”

One of the most well received performances of the night came from Simon Blaise as he suspended one his “angels”, Dominique, between two posts using nothing but layer upon layer of thin polyvinyl wrap. Blaise refers to the process as “Blaise Wrap.”

The wide array of masks, whips, chains, collars, gas masks, leashes, tails, horns, fangs, handcuffs and of course, the occasional pair of maracas set the Fetish Prom apart from most north Scottsdale events.

The only costume not allowed into the event- your birthday suit.

Dave “The Minister of Pain” Ochoa had his white vintage tuxedo tailor made, sparing no expense for his first Fetish Prom.

“I didn’t go to my high school prom,” Ochoa said. “I did go to my Senior Ball.” Though in comparison he says, the ball was lame.

Others, like Sherice Coffey took advantage of the on-site vendors.

Upon entering the prom the first thing she did was purchase a whip.

“I just bought it,” she exclaimed.

Coffey spent a brief moment attempting to whip an unsuspecting photographer.

Brianna “Prissy-Midnight” Gilbert has been to a total of three Fetish Proms so far.

“If you are creative and expressive,” Gilbert says, “you don’t want to miss it.”

“The people here are just incredible,” Gilbert said, adding that the music and the scenery always make the event worth coming to.

The Delia Tobin came for the music.

“The bands,” Tobin said, “there is some amazing music to hear.”

Live performances included sets from Acumen Nation, Dj? Acucrack and Regenerator

Regenerator, self-described as dark electronic music for the mind and body, opened up the night with a set list of heavy beats that drew a large portion of the crowd to the stage area.

Hardcore industrial-metal Acumen Nation, performing alongside Dj? Acucrack, finished out the night with some of their older material that the band played special for the event.

On-site vendors included El Vaquero Muerto Leather Art, Fetish Alive and Toys4Lust, who offered a $1200 raffle grand prize of a Total Torture Device. toys

The majority of those in attendance purchased $175 VIP passes that included a hotel room at Scottsdale Ramada Inn.

“I’m expecting excessive amounts of drinking, nakedness and one crazy pool party,” Ochoa said.

The Arizona Fetish Prom continued on through the night, ending only when the last person checked out of the hotel the following day.

Mitch Palmer helped coordinate and plan this year’s prom.

“Finally tally was 900 people,’ Palmer said, a figure that is just below the average of prior events that brought in an estimated 1,000 and 1,200 respectively.

The Fetish Prom is a Horns & Halos production. Horns & Halos sponsors many similar events throughout the Valley each year.

Bloom says she is looking forward to opportunities like the Fetish Prom in the future.

“It does not matter what you are into,” Bloom says. “If you are into purple furry things, leather or latex or even being beaten until you are black and blue,” she added jokingly, “Being able to express your own uniqueness in all of its myriad of flavors is a really cool thing.”

Julie Simone the versatile Fetish Model and Director

9|
June
2009 | 1:56 pm

hw47Erik von Gutenberg recommends Julie Simone, the verstatile Fetish Model and Director and Performer. An exclusive Interview from Julie for Erik von Gutenberg on Marquis Fetish Blog only for the readers of that blog. Erik is proud to have Julie here and we are also offering Julie’s movies in our shop, do not hesitate and check them out here: Marquis Shop

Julie, as a performer what drives and motivates you to get out there and
perform in front of the camera?

The need to do extreme things.

Which genre do you like best, fetish, bdsm or gonzo?

I would probably pick BDSM since it tends to be more action-packed and provides more opportunities to get inside the character’s heads than a standard latex fetish video would.  There are just more things to explore, though in my own films I try to incorporate fetish and bdsm.  I detest gonzo as a genre.  I think it does a disservice to the girls in it and is lazy film making by people who are only out to make a buck.

How much has art to do with your desire to direct as well?

I think having an artistic nature led me to direct because I was frustrated with how little attention was paid to details.  For an artist or a deconstructionist like me the details are everything.  I knew that I could do it better so I picked up the camera and started shooting.

What was your first movie as director?

kl03The first video I directed was a custom called “Shibari and the Wayward Model”.  The company I sold it to has never released it.

What do you do when you are not on set?

Right now I’m living in the midwest near my family so when i’m not on set I try to spend as much time with them as possible in between working on my sites and editing.

What is your favorite food, movie and animal?

Sushi, “Eraserhead”, cats!

l_11c9415c811b7d4a3bd759f45fdc88f0What kind of music do you like?

I like a lot of different types of music from opera to industrial to hip hop and sometimes even country music.

Describe your unique style as director of movies!

The movies I make are very well thought out.  That’s not to say there isn’t an organic energy exchange happening within the scenes, but everything has an underlying purpose, there are metaphors and symbolism.  There is often more to my videos than just pornography.

What can we expect from Julie Simone going forward?

I’m always changing so it’s hard to predict what I’ll do next.  I’m sure stylized fetish and a psychological element will always have a place in my work.  I will be moving back to LA in the fall…

What kind of wardrobe do you prefer when shooting a fetish movie?

It has to be latex and 6″ stiletto heels with seamed cuban toe/cuban heeled stockings or thigh hi boots.  I really like the look and the effect that a latex hood has on a model/performer as well.

How important is hair and make up for you?

Hair and make-up help create the total package.  I almost always have a make–up artist on my DVD shoots.

uc08What was your most bizarre shoot you participated as actor and than as
directing the film?

One of the strangest was a shoot where I was wrestling another model in mud and the loser got taken into the woods where whipped cream was sprayed all over her and then flogged off.

It’s hard to call any of the films I’ve directed bizarre.  I only shoot things I’m into, so if they’re bizarre then I am bizarre and I’d rather not label myself, but if I HAD to pick a scene it would be the scene where Gia Paloma gets fucked by a Bunny in “Smoking Interviews 3″.

What will be the next movie you will be directing and what is Julie Simone
planning to do summer 2009?

I’m going to be doing a fair amount of traveling this summer, including trips to LA, Phoenix, Tampa for FetishCon, and Arkansas for a quicksand shoot with my gal pal Samantha Grace.

The next movie I’ll be directing will be on my Los Angeles trip for my Vicious Vixxxens line, starring Summer Cummings and Krissy.   It will feature latex, medical fetish including a full body casting scene, rope bondage, spanking, and more!

Thanks so much for your interview with Erik von Gutenberg from MARQUIS AMERICA

Thank you :)

MARQUIS AMERICA Weekly Toy Review

8|
June
2009 | 1:51 am

reviewbannerErik von Gutenberg recommends the weekly toy review with Mistress Darkniis. She knows the toys as no other and we are proud to have her on the blog reviewing toys & accessories!

PES – Stanley Junior – Arcrylic Anal/Vaginal Probe

First, PES brought us the Stanley anal/vaginal quad pole electrode. Not for the feint of heart – Stanley has pleased many people with his performance…

For those of us who are NOT size queens however – we were left out in the dark…

Then came Stanley Jr. to the rescue!

At 1 3/4″ thick and 6″ long – this gives the “average” user an alternative to the quad pole electrode.

2-boxes-stan-jr-lube

4 poles gives the user lots of alternatives. As shown in the photo above you can attain a “push-pull” sensation by using two separate power boxes.

I only have the one power box (so far!) to work with at my house. With the quad pole electrode I highly recommend purchasing the umbilical cord pictured above. Talk about convenience! It keeps all the leads neat and tidy. PES also sent along the belt clip. Slip a 9-volt battery into the power box and put the belt clip on – now you have the portability to be experiencing a PES probe while doing completely mundane tasks such as laundry! Let’s make housework as exciting as possible!

This electrode is very similar in feeling to the vaginal probe previously tested. Because there are 4 poles however – playing with the dials on the power box allows for much more variance in sensations. This probe is not as “mild” as the vaginal probe. Myself being the complete nerd that I am, was fascinated by the fact that you can actually watch the vaginal muscles rhythmically contract when the probe is in use.

For the Dominant hand controlling the knobs on the power box – you will certainly be able to make them squirm. The higher you turn the knob – the more intense the feeling pleasure bordering on pain. The longer you leave them on a specific setting – the more they will get used to it and the higher you will be able to turn it up. Again I would suggest having all the knobs on the lowest setting when starting out – it can be a very “shocking” experience.

The entire PES line is designed to give stronger, more intense orgasms. This is very true of their products! For those of you who have been reluctant to try electro-stimulation you really should give it a go – I promise you will like it!

Liberator’s wonderful Latex Fetish Wear

5|
June
2009 | 3:01 pm

liberator2Erik von Gutenberg recommends Liberator Fetish wear, sexy, very feminine and great designs.

Here at Marquis America we love all kinds of fetishes- clothing fetishes, body modification fetishes, fetish performances and historical fetishes!
One fetish that mixes historical, clothing and performance, as well the occasional freaky body mod, is circus!

Here in San Francisco, any event you go to on the alternative scene will have some people dressed circus style- in ruffly bloomers, stripes, Victoriana that’s a little twisted, and tiny tophats.

There are many circus performers here, as well as two actual circus schools, where anyone can study arts like trapeze, aerials and silks. Contortionists, aerialists and clowns perform at many local events, showing off their flexibility and sideshow style.

liberator1The look dovetails neatly with traditional fetish, because it contains so many similar elements- extreme, body-conscious fashions, fishnet or striped stockings, corsets and other binding garments, leather protective gear, and a dramatic palette featuring black, white and red.

We love to see circus wear rendered in latex especially, as the shine of latex is wonderful under performance lighting and its stretch allows for a wonderfully tight fit.

Liberator, the well-known and much loved sex furniture company, has a new latex line that is absolutely gorgeous, and features some tremendous costumes.

We particularly like the “Circus” and “Circus Royale” costumes, whether for a public or private performance!

Visit the Liberator site’s video section to see an actual circus performance- a beautiful young lady named Melissa doing trapeze work in the Liberator warehouse, in the Circus latex outfit! http://www.liberator.com/videos.php?channel=5&video=17

http://www.liberator.com/ has these great outfits and more- just look in the Latex section.

Marquis America also loves Liberator’s latex lingerie, which is superfeminine and superbly detailed!

Chose Your Honorifics Carefully

30|
May
2009 | 7:10 am

Marquis America brings you an excerpt from Mistress Butterfly, currently in development, by T.Q Swann, the Kardynyl SynysTyr. Enjoy this topical passage and feel free to comment!

We’re going to go outside the “comfort zones” of the play parties and social gatherings this week, antn-01242a small effort to bring the “heady” back down a little closer to “reality.” There is always an emotional let-down at the end of any number of these events: once the dance lights are packed away, the plastic drink cups are crushed and tossed into the refuse bins, and the last perfectly-dressed fetish dolly has managed to teeter her way home, somehow, in her 8″ stiletto heeled boots (and not managing to snap an ankle, I might add).

And the reminiscing and return to the “real world’ begins. People begin to network with each other, clinging fiercely to their self-imposed honorifics and titles – and strangely seeming out of sorts when not immediately recognized, or immediately respected, by a fellow reveller that had met scant hours before. In my estimation, the illusion of entitlement was dispelled said evening came to a close. Some, however, seem to think it appropriate to carry their artificial titles forward and with them throughout the next – and truly following – light of days. Some of you, I am quite certain, are going to take serious umbrage with my dissertation below: but I welcome the challenge to learn alternative thoughts all the same!

I have a very hard time believing that someone who is between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five could seriously refer to themselves as Master or Mistress. It is amazing, and alarming, how often people seem to assume that a self-imposed crown should bestow upon them instant respect from their peers. Even when people across the European Continent were trying to reach out to each other in the first fledgling modern alternative communities, the simple titles Dom and Domina were designations that had to be earned by deed and proficiency. I have no issues with Dominants asking to be referred to as Sir and Miss/Ma’am/Madam/Madame as an immediate sign of respect. Even the somewhat more modern terms Lord and Lady, pretentious as they may be, can be adopted by those within a community whom have shown leadership and educational abilities. The designation of ‘Master’ and ‘Mistress’, though, I will forever hold the conviction that those over-used pretentious prefixes must be earned, through experience, deed and accomplishment, and not merely appropriated – even though the criteria for earning that respect admittedly has drastically changed over the decades.

dominatrixIn truth, the connotation of the titles ‘Master’ and ‘Mistress’ also tend to indicate wealth, privilege and ownership. The obvious and negative association with the word ‘Master’ harkins to times when human beings actually bought, sold, owned and worked other human beings as nothing more than property – no different in mindset, for those times, than buying a horse. Naturally, the trade and institution of human slavery effectively ended with the end of the American Civil War in 1865: and yet the honorifics of the time have been somewhat modified, sanitized and been deemed as acceptable usage among those who venture into the SM realm.

In keeping with that thought, it is an extreme pretense to mantle one’s self as a ‘Master’ or ‘Mistress’ if said individual really has no resources to undertake the complete care of a man or woman they have indentured. It just makes common sense: if you’re blessed enough to be able to actually have the finances to completely control every aspect of a consenting ’slave’s’ life, then by definition perhaps the titles are appropriate. The truth is, however, that the vast majority of SM practitioners simply cannot afford to support and sustain another human being in such a manner, though there are some counted amongst the financial fortunate who can, and do. It has always been my contention that unless you can afford to actually keep someone in a state of consensual servitude for twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week (and thereby by default could be considered a ‘Master’ or ‘Mistress’), then those who insist on claiming the title had at least best be very well liked within their own community, perhaps even considered a leader within that community, and most definitely respected by all of their peers.

Speaking of pretentiousness and taking the appellation debate one ludicrous step further, I firmly believe women who refer to themselves as “Goddess This” or “Goddess That” should really do something about their obvious inferiority complex. Strangely, you never see a man advertise himself as “The God This” or “The God That”. If it’s blasphemous for a man to refer to himself as a God (not to mention precipitously tempting fate), then why in the mass accessibility of our New Age can’t certain women realize that to refer to themselves as a Goddess is equally as blasphemous? Does the Greek myth of Cassiopeia happen to come to mind?

For that matter, how can there possibly be so many “Princesses” out there? What country are these “Princesses” from? Which Old World Royalty are they fortunate enough to be born into? It becomes especially insufferable when you discover the living conditions of some of these eidolon autocrats. It is hard to reconcile a “Princess” living in anything other than a castle – and most assuredly not a grim mobile home in some backwoods kingdom. In some cultures, impersonating Royalty is a crime and taken very seriously. How is it that you take someone seriously when they insist on being referred to as “Princess” and their “palace” may consist of one bedroom, a kitchen, a living room and maybe – just maybe – a linen closet in some inner city apartment block? Sure, the illusion of Royalty is romantic to most of us: but cold, hard fact has a way of dousing our romanticism with the cold waters of cynicism.

sorayama-3If you’re a “Goddess” or a “Princess” the moment you stop behaving like a “Goddess” or a “Princess” you have lost all your credibility. These women should stop setting themselves up on so high a pedestal, because as the saying goes, that can only lead to a single inevitability: a very long, hard and unpleasant fall from casuistic grace.

There is one more designation that simply must be mentioned, because it is a word that has become part of the sadomasochistic vernacular and has gained wide acceptance. Thanks to the burgeoning amount of would-be dominatrices who seem to believe everything they ever need to know about being an “expert” sensual dominant can be obtained via the World Wide Web, the word Domme has mysteriously and almost universally replaced the words Dominatrix or Domina as an acceptable adjective. It is a nice word, and the only problem with it – is that is really isn’t a word at all. For whatever reason, during the latter part of the 1990’s, someone with an empowered sense of feminist ideals took great offense to the word Domina and decided that another adjective was needed that was less feminine, and somehow conveyed equality to Dominant men.

This word, “Domme”, was put to good use by the rougher lesbian dominants (“butch”) and, naturally, once the word started to appear on personal web sites, it was quickly adopted as the standard adjective to describe all women of a dominant nature. To the purists, though, trying to gain equality by changing definitions to suit your own agenda tends to indicate a state of inferiority existed in the first place. There are many examples of non-existent words in use today, and in fairness it must be pointed out that until 1902 the word ‘aeroplane’ didn’t exist, either. The times do change and as a byproduct of technology terminology changes as well. However, it is one thing to adopt a new term for something that heretofore didn’t exist in our natural world: it is quite another to just “make one up” when the current, correct title or term doesn’t happen to suit your own haughty and narcissistic ego.

The simple truth is, no matter how people choose to identify and/or categorize themselves, men and women both should chose their honorifics carefully, and be prepared for contempt and derision should they fail to live up to their own artificially-induced expectations. Titles of respect are earned, remember, not merely assumed or expected.

Power Exchange Las Vegas Scene Report

27|
May
2009 | 6:17 am

marlayna-power-exchange-las-vegas-i-love-itMARQUIS AMERICA recommends the Power Exchange club in Las Vegas, report  from our wonderful Marlayna Lacie.

My think machine is going through the folders and files and I am remembering that maybe there were two or three trannies, two G-G’s who did us up with strap-ons and a way so kinky and fun guy. (HELLO)!!!

At the end of the night I walking like a duck as I was looking for my panties. When the one gent who WAS there was leaving he reminded me that his name was Mike Powers.   Oh, we ,Oh we O!

So I can say to you, I KNOW MIKE POWERS! Say no more other than again that is impossible for me. Now when Shavonna and I went to an open-house at Mike’s new play palace I had no idea what to expect.

Dear readers, words can not describe just how amazing the new two-story PELV is. Photos can give you a good idea but you really have to walk, prance or be led in and through on a leash to really appreciate what Mike, his family and  kinked-out staff have, accomplished.

marlayna-shavonna-and-michelle-on-the-scene-the-power-exchange-in-sin-cityThe new venue features a ‘couples only’ area, numerous themed playrooms, strategically placed voyeur locations, lounge area, stripper poles, video lounges, an adult boutique and so much more!

Opening night was the same night as the AVN Ultimate After Party at the Venetia Hotel and I would be remiss if I do not mention that the photo of Shavonna Starr doing a show and tell for TRANSFORMATION magazine on my first BLOG posting was taken by world renowned fetish lens-man Tommy O!

OK,  back to it! At the grand opening it was SRO and every time I tried to get a photo-op with Mike he was the ‘rock star’ with VIP guests, admirers and staff at his heels.

As you know, we live and mark our lives by time!  When Shavonna told me that the limo driver  who was calling her one on her cell phone because he was outside ready to transport us over to the XXX party. I made a point to tell Mike and his vivacious and charming MomZ Joyce that I would be in touch.

Since then I have been going to the PELV just about every other week because it is now tranny central in Sin City. The premier place to be seen when you are on the scene.

Kendra James the versatile Fetish Model

May
2009 | 8:12 am

img_1174-mmMARQUIS AMERICA recommends Kendra James, the versatile fetish model and Mistress.

Kendra James is a versatile model who has worn many hats over her career. She started in the adult industry working as a pro dominatrix for San Francisco’s very own Fantasy Makers. While there, she was able to learn all of the proper tools and etiquette of the fetish lifestyle. After a very fulfilling stint with the girls at Fantasy Makers, Kendra decided to move on to performing. She traveled with the Reverend B. Dangerous Freak Show under the stage name “Stitches,” touring the country with Ozzy Osbourne and his Ozzfest. She had the pleasure of sharing the stage with rock royalty like Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson, Pantera, Slipknot, and of course Ozzy. It was a photo shoot she did with Ozzy as Mrs. Clause for Metal Hammer magazine that contributed to her getting the modeling bug.

495e745aaf5e4When the touring ended she decided to go into fetish and bondage modeling full time. On one of her first ventures into the modeling side of the fetish world, she found herself in front of the lenses of the fledgling site that became Kink.com. With her insatiable appetite for all things kinky she soon found herself working with some of the internet’s best sites; names like Bondage Cafe.com, Hardtied.com, and Fetishnation.com.

Kendra has since made a career of being able to handle any situation – be it acting as a super hero for Leagueofamazingwomen.com, posing for Sean McCall and his amazing camera work or shooting a video with Liam Pierce and Hustler’s Taboo. Kendra has proven again and again that hard work will always pay off. With the launch of here new site MissKendraJames.com there is no telling what naughty and kinky things she will have planned for us in the future

MARQUIS WEEKLY TOY REVIEW Axovus little devil

MARQUIS AMERICA toy review with Mistress Darkniis. She knows the toys as no other and we are proud to have her on the blog reviewing toys & accessories!

Axovus – Little Devil
A perfect starter toy for starting your explorations into Electrosex. Axovus has come up with a compact, easy to use TENS type zapper for your toybag.

little_devil

My friends all know that there is usually something new and exciting in my toy bag every time I attend COPE. Apparently while I was off making my rounds and catching up with other friends in the community my best girl was poking around in my flogger trunk to see what interesting thing I had put in the bag.

From the other side of the hall I suddenly heard squeels of surprise and delight – coming from the direction of my little group, so of course curiosity took hold and I made my way back. Apparently several volunteers had been found to test the Little Devil.

When the two spikes contact skin they give off a fairly intense electrical shock. According to the victims just zapped – it is a sharp tingling feeling – pleasure mixed with pain! It had a few people ducking and squirming and of course asking where they could buy one!

The unit is powered by 2AA batteries… It has two settings; constant and blink. And of course to play safe – don’t run around zapping anyone with a pacemaker or heart condition!

Carrie LaChanceMARQUIS AMERICA recommends Arch Enemys, beautiful PIN UP photography.

ArchEnemys Inc. was established back in 1997. Our mission then… to sell high heel footwear. We took a unique approach by marketing our unique footwear through “Pin-Up Style” photography and reality style videography on our online gallery www.archenemys.com It took off like wild fire! This Pin-Up style approach became our strongest selling point & it is what shapes the foundation of ArchEnemys.

danielle00525The style of photography we do is what we call Pin-Up. Pin-Up is a combination of the following… Edgy, sexy, fashionable, glamorous, very creative and is still suitable to pin-up on a wall. We, of course always have some of the most crazy outfits and footwear imaginable. Stuff you generally only see in the movies or on TV. Keeping our “high heel Pin-Up theme” is very important, our top priority is to continue keeping our work clean and classy. We have been able to shape ArchEnemys with some of Maine’s top models. And we plan to expand and continue growing more and more each day.

Bolshy Great Yarblockos! Shades of Clockwork Orange

22|
May
2009 | 1:51 pm

PHOTO BY PURPLEMATTFISH, MANCHESTER, UKCome with Uncle, and hear all proper!  Hear angel trumpets and devil trombones. You are invited!” ~ Alex DeLarge

Many films, since the advent of the artform as a pure entertainment medium in the very early stages of the 20th Century, have risen to the status of  cultural icon. Rarely, however, has the original literary source been afforded the same reverence and iconographic status as an accompanying film version.

Naturally, the tangible visual aspects of said films invariably give rise to entire communities of enthusiasts, and the costumery and accompanying “garage made” accessories never fail to illicit “oohs” and “ahhs” when unveiled at any number of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Comic Book – or even Fetish – events.

clockwork-korovaIn 1962, an English linguist and extremely prolific playwright and author by the name of Anthony Burgess (born John Burgess Wilson, 1917 – 1993) penned what has come to be known as one of the truly great and landmark novels of the 20th Century. The book was A Clockwork Orange, and no tome yet adapted for the screen has created both such a devout following and illicited such a raging controversy over the past half-century. Clearly a full decade before the epic 1972 film version of the same name (starring the irrepressible Malcolm MacDowell in the unforgettable role of the violence-addicted, Beethoven-loving, soon-to-be-forcefully reformed teenage hoodlum Alex DeLarge), contingents of head-to-toe white dressed and suspender wearing, combat-booted and bowler-hatted “Droogies” started infiltrating the London and Manchester pubs and nightclubs. Some of the devotees even sported the “Droogs” trademark athletic supporters (”cod pieces”) - worn on the outside of their stark-white trousers – while enjoying a pint or twelve in their favorite shlagas (”clubs”). When the Stanley Kubrick film eventually made its way to global cinema screens (and not without generating an immense amount of controversy revolving around  its original “X” rating due to a rather horrific and terribly graphic home invasion scene), the stark and strangely alluring aesthetic of the anti-hero’s chosen trappings became a continuously ingrained staple at costume and fetish events – and continue to be so, nearly four decades later.

Curiously, Anthony Burgess himself absolutely despised the film version and denounced it, and its director, bitterly and derisively right up until his death. He was so filled with rancor that A Clockwork Orange was the one work in which his name would be forever associated with that towards the end of his life, he was even claiming the book itself was “one of his lesser works”. This is an astounding statement: Burgess, as a linguist, had managed with absolute brilliance not only to craft an entirely new language (which he called Nadsat) but also was able to write the book in such a way that the reader could not help but learn the new terms – nouns, adjectives and verbs – as they read along. A Clockwork Orange is not only a superbly crafted modern fable (”Time and age are the true prime movers of eventual maturity”), it is a fantastic teaching device: what better way to have to learn how a language is constructed and utilized than by being completely immersed in it – and all the while enjoying the exceptionally concise and thought-provoking storyline that accompanies it?

clockwork-weddingDespite the original author’s protestations to the contrary, A Clockwork Orange, both as an original book and landmark film, have never failed to grasp the imagination of many a costume and fetish aficiando. Women have even started to highly sensualize the usually-drab pure “whiteness” of the costume – and couples out for an evening of revelry cannot help but to look striking (no pun intended, of course) in their matching bowler hat, black boots, “cod piece” and walking cane ensembles. Fashion and fetish models alike have taken the “look” to an even higher artform – and the internet has seen rise to some of the most visually stunning and admirable practitioners of “High Droog Fashion”. There have even been “Clockwork Theme Wedding Albums” recently populating numerous European and North American-based web sites. While it is obviously easier to put together a groom’s attire for such a momentous occasion, trying to come up with an appropriately-themed wedding dress and make-up ensemble can be a very difficult challenge indeed – but that challenge has been met and matched with some incredibly inventive, appropriate and true to the aesthetic and yet undeniably elegant and classic (in their own way) bridal gowns and trains. All things considered, very high praise for an author who wrote the original manuscript decades before most of these Clockwork Acolytes were even born, and even higher praise for a visual design from a 1972 film that continues to be one of the most rented, revered and reviewed in our video rental outlets.

Some writers (including Your Humble Narrator himself) have even ratcheted up and kept alive the artform of the original Nadsat language that was purely invented by Anthony Burgess. In fact, it has come to this writer’s attention over the past few weeks that I have managed to ruffle a few feathers within the various fetish communities with my oh-so-opinionated rantings and ramblings. Thus, remaining true to the spirit of our dear old Droog Alex LeFarge I give to those of you amongst the chellovecks my sincere and heartfelt apologies – but in pure Nadsat form. You should be able to catch the meaning and gist of the language – but should you need assistance, I will direct you to a handy Nadsat resource tool, the  Nadsat Dictionary:

Upon the Trodding on of Subtle Sensitivities

Your Humble Narrator and Untrue Friend hath had an Epiphany of sorts, O My Droogies …

O, we can govoreet and kvitch kvitch crark to Bog and all his horned angels in regards to the massy-nations that doth transpire within the bolny, bezoomny mozg of Old Syn, that starry old veck himself! Combine thy rassodooks all the good long day, my lovely damas and moodges – Verily, thy shalt not ever pony the messels and reasons that doth make Old Syn tick-tick-tick like a fagged, ancient clock!

clockwork-burlesqueYour Old Droog hath come to his senses, O My Lovelies! The basiliskies have fallen from the glazzies – and true that which he now viddies with bolshy great clarity.

Thy Synical and truly spatchka-deprived Humble Narrator is responsible, like, for some vred and boo-hoo-hooing towards other Droogies within said Community. Appy polly loggies need to skazzed, like, to some of those lewdies – even though it doth razdraz mine guttiwuts to do so! No thump-thump-thumping of mine own sweet groody, now – my slovos are iron-wrought with sincerity …

Thus, let it be so: No false skorry and sladky sorrows and regrets, I swears on my late pee and em! I had this messel, that being a tiny thought like, that certain chellovecks did mean to do me harm – and O My Lovely Baboochkas and Deds, Your dorogy but malenky-bit bezoomny Syn could not have been more mistaken! All this dratsing and playing of eegras clearly domnyed within mine own grahzny merzky gulliver – there was no existence of true malfeasance truly to be found, O My Malchickiwicks! How lovely! How horrowshow for the likes of thee and thine, O Droogies! And yet, how oozhassny for me! I want to platch and platch and platch until old Bog himself takes mercy, like, on me!

Humblest appy polly loggies, then, O My Bratties and Bratchkas! I hast done thee collectively a great disservice with thine vreddy, krovvy and hateful slovos! Please forgive me, like – and Your Humble Narrator shall do what he can to never trod in anger-like upon the dobby sensitivities or aim to soil thy neezhnies and platties with mine own vile sputtum, never again!

Your Humble Narrator did say try, yet thou allst doth know me … So in expectation, like, of the bitvas to come, I say to thee that dost not choose to believe mine own sweet intent …

Bolshy great yarblockos to thee and thine!

The special atraction was for sure Fierce Couture from Tressa, we simply love here and her vision for design and beauty:

041809fang6400Founded in 2003, Fierce Couture is the result of Tressa Williams’ endless experiments with non-traditional materials and construction techniques. Drawing on a diverse background in academia (a degree in art and architectural history from Wesleyan University and dress theory studies at NYU), men’s tailoring, and costuming, Williams’ work explores the relationship between the graphic line and the three-dimensional body. Her designs utilize the tactile qualities of latex to play with shape, form, and color, creating garments that are sculptural and unexpected.

_mg_8494Her work came to the attention of leading emerging artist presenter GenArt and was featured as one of their Fresh Faces in Fashion in 2004 where she showed a collection entirely made of latex. Since then, Fierce Couture has shown in London, Berlin, and across the United States.

041809fang4400After relocating to Los Angeles in 2005, the studio increased its involvement with the entertainment industry – providing garments for film, music videos, and photo shoots in addition to continuing to produce new collections and custom designs.

Here at Marquis fetish fashion blog we love the variety of resources available to those looking to dress up for fetish and costume and fashion events. Corsets are almost a standard item now, and increasingly they are true, handmade quality corsets. A corset fits best if it is custom made to the wearer’s own measurements, and Meschantes corsetry is probably the best value out there for a custom corset. Corsets can be custom made for as little as $200. I have three of their corsets myself, and they are comfortable, sturdy- featuring a steel underbusk at the front closure, a detail not always included even in custom corsets- and fit like a glove.

She basically well-grounded has it all – a fledgling livelihood, an equally knife-edged cohort, kids, riches and a diplomatic hospitality to boot. Angelina Jolie could cover representing surroundings president nobility instantly and obtain next to a landslide. On the other deliverance, fans would not pauperism that – in accomplishment, they’re already contended with essentially viewing Angelina Jolie bikini snapshots. Even with her widespread seniority and rearing six children – the critically acclaimed actress looks hotter than by any chance. The famous provenience entered the Hollywood uncomfortable at the bills seniority of fourteen and then branched prohibited into acting some in good time dawdle after.
Ever since Angelina Jolie strutted in the runways a record form, she already elicits drools and swoons from the audience.

Whatever the keyword is, what catapulted Jolie into common outcome and what cemented her knife-edged dominatrix fetish is the shroud Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. The turbulence paint features the knife-edged actress kicking villains and shooting dejection guys in nautical taut starless leather.
Since then, Angelina Jolie has captured the crowd’s reproductive creativity. What’s more, Angelina Jolie many times joins the ranks of the most stirring or the sexiest and hottest roster of people. In accomplishment, a heaps of websites, poop armoury and with in fun in cheek tabloids started dedicating airtime interval representing the knife-edged actress. For multifarious times, she coequal ranked the in any case on those charts.

angelina-jolie-tomb-raider-thumbWhat’s coequal more unimaginable is, coequal after Jolie gave parturition to three children, she continues to intimate headlines in those kinds of charts and countdowns. on the whole kit
Not extended after she cemented her alcove in Hollywood as the generation’s shagging coat of arms, a heaps of people started surmising in all directions from Jolie’s crucial statistics. Did it interchange when she gave parturition or does she in actuality affinity for unacceptable sexier with seniority? Nevertheless, Angelina Jolie line the reproductive creativity from people all upwards the ball – coequal if her belly elephantine because of pregnancy. MARQUIS AMERICA toy review with Mistress Darkniis. She knows the toys as no other and we are proud to have her on the blog reviewing toys & accessories!

Erogenics – Feelbuck
“This isn’t a luxury, as much as an investment in life long personal ecstasy, which sustains, enriches, and expands body, mind and soul. Beauty matters. Quality makes a treasure. Thundering orgasms make human joy. That’s why I make these.” – Cate

Well said!

Mia and the ladies at Feeldoe have developed an acrylic version of the patented and very popular feeldoe, called a “feelbuck”. Besides being absolutely gorgeous this baby is the “buck” to the “doe”.

feelbuck

This version was built to help out the male of the species. The bulb was mean to be inserted anally for our gay male couples or for the hetero man who may be having erectile dysfunction. The bulb is designed to stimulate the wearer’s p-spot, and the “horse” end of the dildo is shaped to offer varied sensations. Because these are made of arcrylic, I suggest you be gentle on your first try and don’t thrust too hard!

The Feelbuck can also be used by a female wearer in the same fashion as the Feeldoe. There is no saddle on the Feelbuck however for clitoral stimulation. Both versions of the dildo require patience and practice! Once you get the hang of it – you will never go back to the straps and buckles of the traditional strapon dildo.

If you haven’t been doing your Kegel exercises ladies, both versions will comfortably fit into a strapon harness until you have had enough practice sessions to go without.

Remember kids; sharing is fun!

Can’t Stop the Beats: The Music of the Night

May
2009 | 4:50 pm

tn-01241-300x2251A wise man once wrote that a person’s “eyes are the very windows to a person’s soul.” I respectfully have to disagree. I believe it’s the ears and eyes both that truly inspire us to reveal the very depths of consensual depravity and delicious ecstasies that reside deep in our collective beings. Both visually and auditorily assault our immortal souls with unstoppable passion whilst in the throes of intoxicating expressions of pleasure and pain – in both private settings and public gatherings alike.

While there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of visual delights to be had while allowing our fingers to do the walking in the unending pursuit of visual stimulation, assuredly there must be an equal number of preferred musical numbers favored by the sadomasochistic masses which motivate us to swing the whip just  a little faster.

Anyone who has attended any kind of Fetish event in the past two decades surely must have sashayed and seductively grinded their hips in time to the hypnotic “beat” of any number of hard-driving, appropriately themed musical compositions – and usually on the dance floors of the clubs hosting said Fetish events. It goes without saying that such musical efforts have also definitely inspired several rhythmic, syncopated whipping and public torture sessions – the aforementioned visual accompanying delight to all those in attendance, to be sure. Thus, Your Humble Narrator offers up, and submitted for your approval, a Top Five List of some of the best SM-inspired musical numbers sure to be the accompanying “ear candy” to all those lovely visuals we so crave at our ritualistic, hedonistic and sensualistic congregations. There are simply too many great songs to choose from, so I offer the five that I feel truly had the biggest “impact” on our lovely little proclivity throughout the past 50 years:

bryan-ferry15. Slave to Love – Bryan Ferry (Nine and a Half Weeks Original Soundtrack)

The 1980’s will be remembered for tight spandex, big hair – and truly the genesis of SM starting to become far more mainstream. Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger steamed up our movie screens with a fairly good little film about bondage and discipline (with surprisingly little to no actual scenes of bondage or discipline) called Nine and a Half Weeks, based on a short novella of the same title by a New York gallery impresario named Elizabeth MacNeill. Two songs from that iconic soundtrack are featured in this tome – and Slave to Love is a fitting beginning to our list. Who didn’t want to immediately run out and buy some strawberries and honey after listening to this song and watching the infamous “blindfolded kitchen scene?”

Memorable Line: “You’re running with me … Don’t touch the ground … We’re restless hearted … Not the chained and bound …”

tom-lehrer4. The Masochism Tango – Tom Lehrer

Tom Lehrer is, of course, a well-known satirist and popular comical speaker on the lecture circuit throughout the United States and Canada. He is also an extremely able mathematician with an unusual penchant for parody: his 1959 record album An Evening With Tom Lehrer was one of the landmark comedy albums that virtually invented the genre. That album became infamous for two pieces in particular: The Elements, a song sung to the tune of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Major Generals Song from The Pirates of Penzance and featured a recitation of the (then known) Periodic Table of the Elements; and a strange little number called The Masochism Tango which to this very day lives fondly in the hearts of every SM purist. While comic in origin, the song is strangely alluring – and enormously entertaining – while still managing to keep the spirit and consensual longing exhibited by even the most thick-skinned of submissive types. I have personally seem more than one well-staged Argentine Tango performance at a Fetish Night being performed to this song, and it never fails to bring a rousing cheer and appreciative applause from the leather and latex clad masses in attendance.

Memorable Line: “At your command, before you here I stand, my heart is in your hand, it’s here that I must be … My heart entreats, just hear those savage beats … and go put on your cleats, and come and trample me …!”

luba-23. Let it Go – Luba (Nine and a Half Weeks Original Soundtrack)

The second, and the best of, the two great songs from the film. It’s the signature song from Nine and a Half Weeks and remains the Canadian songstress’s best known and most loved hit. While very little of the lyrics contained in the song actually directly refers to sadomasochism, it is impossible to ignore the subtle and intoxicating inferences the silky-voiced chanteuse conveys to us. Born Luba Kowalchyk in Montreal in the late 1950’s, Let it Go and the equally hypnotic Every Time I See Your Picture I Cry are her two songs that helped define a generation just waking up to awareness in an all-too-informative electronic age. It is this song, more than any other before it or since, that made it acceptable for artists to express their sadomasochistic desires through song – and nearly a decade before other performers like Madonna made it socially acceptable and mainstream to do so.

Memorable Line: “Uniformity … Conventionality … is the bane of our existence … Keep it safely at a distance … Non-comfority … unconventionality … Is the best to be, let your hair down, can’t you see? Let it go … Let it free your body, uncivilize your soul … Let it go … A woman is made, she is not born …”

lords-of-acid2. The Power is Mine – Lords of Acid

It is impossible to choose merely one Techno/Industrial/Gothic Rock song to represent the plethora of excellent, beat-heavy tunes that exploded in our ears in the dance clubs beginning in the early part of the last decade. Therefore, I will choose one that I feel best exemplifies all of them. The Power is Mine has it all: a hard-driving, techno rhythm; exceptionally strong male and female vocals; a memorable melody and an unforgettable, to-the-point set of lyrics. While the Belgian group’s other efforts are utterly laced with extreme sexuality (which undoubtedly is the reason why they became so hugely popular in the dance and fetish clubs of the 1990’s and continue to be so),  The Power is Mine is relatively tame in comparison yet still manages to deliver all of the sensuality and “punch” so favored by fetish enthusiasts everywhere. The band continues to perform, and is still considered by rock purists as one of the true innovators and influencers of sexually charged, hard-edged rock and roll. They will continue to be “the true ambassadors for sexual curiousity” far into the 21st Century.

Memorable Line: “I can break your will … I can make you kneel … I can force you to crawl and to to lick my heels … Because the power is mine …”

annie-lennox1. Sweet Dreams – Eurythmics

Ah, sweet androgyny: they name truly is Annie Lennox. While the song first hit North American shores in 1983, it wasn’t until roughly four to five years later that the song started gaining universal popularity in the dance and fetish clubs of the “Big Hair” era. It seems incredulous now: but there were actual petitions and movements afoot to have the song banned because of the starkness of its lyrics. In some cities, the word “abused” was actually “bleeped” out when it played on the radio. Compared to the overt and blatant sexual overtones exhibited in everything from Rap music to Industrial and House music today, Sweet Dreams almost appears laughably moderate. Still, the song was – and still is – a trend setter, and was the first huge hit for Annie Lennox and her then partner, the brilliant David Stewart. The song remains the “flagship” piece in comparison with all others of its kind. Footnote: Sweet Dreams was meant to be included in the soundtrack to Nine and a Half Weeks, but the British duo contributed another effort to Adrian Lyne’s film instead: a forgettable little tune called This City Never Sleeps. The intended song though, Sweet Dreams, remains instantly recognizable from the very moment the first strains of the thumping electronic and synthesized beat is heard. It also makes for a great ring tone for your cellular phone: Yours Truly has used the song for that very purposes for years.

Memorable Line: “Some of them want to use you … Some of them want to get used by you … Some of them want to abuse you … Some of them want to be abused …”

Naturally, there are thousands of other songs that deserve to be in any “top five” or “top ten” list. Breath Control by Recoil is a favored song in the clubs these days, as is Engel by Rammstein and Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake is a favorite among the younger SM set. For a “waltz” or slower number, there’s always the haunting Chains by Tina Arena. The list above, though, opened the door in respective time periods for other artists to follow – and for that alone, they deserve to be revered – and remembered.

Now, what would your all-time SM-related songs be?

CMD Erotic – For the Metal Fetishist

large_aluminum_paddleI have met many that have the same fetish as myself. Metal. Cool, sturdy, shiny, smooth… It is something that I am always searching for and if I had my preference, all of the implements in my dungeon space would be made of metal.

CMD Erotic (California Metal Designs) machines some VERY beautiful pieces that I am proud to display on my walls!

Neil does some wonderful designing and machining and is available to do custom work as well. He has sent us three pieces to review.

Just in time for the public play party that I love to attend in my community. My chosen victim was encased in rubber – my new male model for my photography. The boy is blessed with great genetics and has an ass made of steel. Thankfully it was CMD to the rescue!

Not only is this paddle a thing of beauty but the quality of the machining is superb. It took some muscle behind the strokes, but it got through the latex and got the desired effect that I wanted which was some stretching and toe curling! The sound of this beauty against latex is very loud as well. I could feel the heat of the reddened flesh right through the latex.

cmd_rubber_whipThey call this piece “The Stinger” and it comes by its name honestly. The handle again is beautifully machined and then attached to that is sixteen inches of solid rubber about a half inch thick. We tried this first on bare flesh and it is one nasty bitey bitch! It stings just as much through the latex but it was grabbing the rubber and we were actually concerned that it might split the latex.

And for the final piece… a beautiful plug, check it out on the CMD website, a simply must have! evil smiles

Mirrored finish – literally smooth like glass. Made of aerospace aluminum. This would be a medium sized plug with the three stages. Heavy but not overly so… Height 5-1/2″ Step 1 is 3-1/2″ circumference Step 2 is 4-3/4″ circumference Step 3 is 5-1/2″ circumference Depth to the neck is 4-1/2″. Beautiful!

All of the CMD products are available from the folks at 665 Leather.

How Gene Roddenberry Changed the Fetish World

    8|
    May
    2009 | 10:39 am

“What a strange power there is in clothing.” ~ Isaac Bashevis Singerstar-trek-corset-yellow

We’ve all seen them. Every major city in North America – and I highly suspect several across Europe, for that matter – has a hard-core following of extremely dedicated, somewhat over-the-top fans entirely devoted to dressing the part of their favorite characters from their favorite television and film series. Science Fiction and Comic Book Conventions through the Western World are generously populated by devotees donning tight spandex body suits, leathered body armour, latex facial “prosthetic” applications and, of course, thigh high leather boots.

Your Humble Narrator, of course, is speaking of the phenomenom that is Star Trek.

For over forty years, fans of the iconic science fiction franchise have attended these kinds of gatherings dressed in their alien finery, proudly marching into Convention Centers without fear of ridicule and with more than just a little admiration from their fellow conventioners. While the Star Wars universe certainly has an enormous following in its own right (who doesn’t absolutely love Darth Vader in his seven-foot leathers and masked, heavy breathing finery?), there truly is nothing on Planet Earth to compare with the creativeness, attention to detail and visual variety inspired by the old “wagon train to the stars” homage that was – and is -  Star Trek.

May 8, 2009, marks the official release and debut of the latest in the long-running saga. While the new Star Trek film has been crafted as a prequel to the original 1967 – 1969 Paramount Studios television series, it is still sure to be simply described as a “license to print money” for the studio: there is a built-in fan base that will scrape every last penny they have, stand in line for hours on end, and joyously banter with their fellow enthusiasts in eager anticipation in hearing those words, “Space … the final frontier …” hopefully fill their ears when the lights in the theatre finally and gloriously dim. The celluloid will begin to unravel within the spools of the giant projectors and the inevitable cheers for the (younger) heros of the Star Trek soap opera grace the screen. There are sure to be more than just a few attending opening day festivities dressed from head to toe as their revered chosen champion or sinister alien villain.

Star Trek, of course, was the brainchild of the late writer Gene Roddenbery – a man more known as a writer of television serial westerns prior to attaining global infamy as the genius behind the vast marketing machine that shall be forever warp-powered by his Starship Enterprise. Mr. Roddenberry suddenly left his mortal coil due to heart failure in 1991, and some of his ashes were subsequently carried into space aboard one of the American Space Shuttle missions in 1992. He became one of the first people to officially be “buried”, somewhat, in outer space. He was joined in the afterworld by his wife, Majel Barrett, who is known to Trek fans for portraying several different characters (including the voice of the Starfleet computers) throughout the runs of the original series and the subsequent, more modern spinoffs, in late 2008. There are rumours that plans are afoot to carry the remainder of his ashes, mixed with hers, aboard a future shuttle mission – and “launched” deep into space. Truly, a fitting final chapter for the “First Lord and Lady of Science Fiction.”

The creative genius behind the sensation may be silenced, but other talented writers and artists have picked up the mantle of the franchise and the mission continues, and probably will continue to do so, long into the 21st Century. The original muse may be gone – but the journey continues, especially in the creative expressions of the fans and their adornments and custom-made accessories themselves.

Here is a brief glimpse into the neo-fetishistic world that has been inspired by, and continuously perpetrated by, those rabid, dedicated fans themselves. It would seem appropriate to break the sub-culture down into the most popular reproductions:

    star-trek-corset-redStarfleet:

By far, the most popular costume and property reproductions seen at movie premieres and conventions has to be a variation on the many themes portrayed throughout the franchise on the Starfleet uniforms. It is impossible to do justice to the staggering amount of private costume designers and dedicated fans who take the time to “re-invent” their favoured uniforms in an unending variety of colors – but the basic formula remains the same. Usually, a Starfleet uniform color indicates which “division” of the “service” the wearer belongs to – although that convention did manage to change throughout the years. In general, however, we can make the following assumptions, based on the preferred colors exhibited by convention attendees in recent years: Gold for Command; Yellow for Engineering; Blue for Medical and Science, Red for Expendable Crew Persons (usually Communications and Security). In all cases, the bottom half or two-thirds of the uniform was always black. Even in the early days of the original series, the uniform was always accompanied, by women and men alike, by an attractive pair of knee-high and, in some cases, thigh high leather boots. An entire industry of Starfleet uniform reproductions has thrived since the late 1980’s, when “the next generation” took to the stars in a brand new USS Enterprise. Some designers, such as California’s Evening Arwen, operated by a trained actress and musical theatre performer named Rebecca Jordan, has elevated the seductiveness and allure of the uniform by giving it a more streamlined, extremely sexy look – and has managed to maintain the integrity of the original design. According to her website, the self-described “little red haired girl” was originally inspired by the imagery so lavishly described in the literary version of  The Lord of the Rings and started to market costume designs based on some of the characters described within the pages of that timeless epic. She soon found, however, that she was getting demands for Star Trek inspired reproductions, and has not really looked back. Their Starfleet corset designs are truly the most unique available for purchase and are surprisingly affordable – even to the most cash-strapped fans.

    klingon-woman-3Klingons:

Not only has an entire industry been developed dedicated to the look and aesthetic of Star Trek’s most popular villains-turned-allies, but an entire theology, ideology and even language have since been created and popularized by enterprising theorists and linguists. Klingons have come a long way from the somewhat ridiculous, splotchy “orange tan” humanoid look of the original 1960’s television series: current representations almost universally sport a signature, fierce ridged forehead and equally wild ‘Mongolian’ hairstyle. The warrior culture so important to the Star Trek lexicon that represents the Klingons is very prevelant in their attire: full suits of leather and metal body armour smartly accessorized with lethal-looking cross-body ‘Johnny Belts’, vicious blades, heavy leather gauntlet style gloves and, course, reptile-reminiscent thigh high boots (complete with eviscerating toe claws!). While ‘humans’ may find Klingon women oddly erotic while thus attired, I suggest it may be hard to become romantically entangled with a female warrior. Those high brow ridges and sharp, pointed teeth could cause quite the bruising (can you imagine the hickies?) were one to attempt an amorous liason with a fully-adorned Klingon battle princess. Still, those boots are incredibly sexy …

Of all the alien subcultures portrayed in the pantheon of Star Trek characters, it is probably a full Klingon ensemble that will set the passionate costume wearer back quite a few hard-earned dollars. Very little in the Klingon uniform can be purchased off the rack: a true acolyte would need to find any number of custom-costume designers to tailor make their costumes for them. That is, of course, unless they have the dexterity and talent to fully create the “look” entirely themselves. Where does one acquire toe claws for thigh high boots, anyway?

    borg-queenThe Borg:

Perhaps no other Star Trek villain has captured the public imagination quite like the cold, ruthlessly efficient cybernetic creatures known as the Borg. They are the true Cyberpunks of the mass media age: fully encased in heavy latex body suits which are attached to a plethora of evil-looking hoses, metal hooks, pinchers and needles. Even the headgear sported by the Borg evokes a feeling of fear and apprehension, with their laser-sighted eyepieces and sharply striking metal prosthetics. Next to Klingons, and certainly running a very close second at the conventions, you are sure to see entire contingents of custom-designed Borg walking in a near Frankensteinish manner towards you – wondering, perhaps, which will be the first of the lot to open their mouths and utter the famous words, ‘Resistance is futile. Prepare to be assimilated.’ While these rubber-clad walking nightmares are sure to make you feel awkward and ultimately uncomfortable, it is impossible not to admire the sheer artistry behind their varied and unique creations. Unlike Klingon uniforms, however, it is relatively simple and cost-effective to invent an entire Borg ensemble if you choose to attend an event dressed as such: Much of the materials convention goers use in their ensembles are store bought, or easy to order from a number of online sources. A latex catsuit or diving wetsuit usually forms the bodysuit base for the costume, and most dedicated practitioners are able to whip up diabolical-looking mechanical accessories (complete with hooks and hoses) that appear to remain true to the original design. No discussion of the Borg would be complete, of course, without mentioning the ultra-sensual, visual pheromone that was the portrayal of two Borg women: The Borg Queen (played originally by Alice Krige) and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan). One cannot even make a quick, casual appearance outside a convention site hosting a science fiction weekend without counting at least a dozen “Borg Queens” and an equal number of “Seven of Nines” walking in and amongst the gathered crowds. While the heavy-metal imagery associated with the usual interpretation of Borg costumes is always admired by Star Trek fans, it is the less-mechanically attired, sensual, tight-rubber encased female representations that seem to garner the most (male) attentions.

orion-slave-girls-gone-wild-2Naturally, we cannot leave this dialogue without mentioning one of the more sly, secretive and strangely alluring Star Trek representations that manage to pop up at the conventions and film openings. In 1966, the original two-hour pilot for Star Trek was filmed – sans Captain Kirk. The original pilot episode featured a starship Captain named Christopher Pike, and fans of the original series will remember with great reverence that the original pilot was smartly incorporated into a two-part episode two years later, and called The Menagerie.

Perhaps the most famous segment of that two-part episode featured the wild gyrations and manipulations of a green skinned slavegirl from the planet Orion. While that particular scene itself may have lasted all of three minutes on our television screens, it has lasted forever in the hearts, minds and libidos of Star Trek conventioners for four decades. Dozens of green skinned Orion slavegirls, always sporting the trademark green skin and black hair, have sexed-up the lives of many a “Trek Nerd” with their mere appearance at these events. Of course, in keeping with the slavegirl theme, these Orions must be appropriately clad merely in some kind of bikini and hip-wrap only: animal prints seem to be the most popular. Sometimes these slavegirls will wear a collar and will have the good fortune to be led into the event at the end of a leash by her Romulan, Ferengi or Cardassian master (no self-respecting Starfleet officer would dare to show such blatant contravention of Starfleet anti-slavery rules by dragging in an Orion slavegirl to an event!). These girls are typically the Belles of the Ball – and often end up in catty, snidely whispered deragatory snipes with any number of Klingon or Borg women also in attendance: especially if their masters have graciously allowed them to wear six-inch heeled shoes or boots to cover their delicate green feet.

Those that may be planning to take in opening day festivities at any multitude of Star Trek screenings over the next several weeks are sure to encounter more than just a few “appropriately attired” fans anxiously waiting in line to pay respects to their 23rd Century heroes. Hopefully, you won’t be assimilated, invited to a Bat’Leth battle to the death, or insult the sensitivities of any number of cooing green Orion slavegirls gone wild.

But, considering the “eye candy”, you’re sure to have a lot of fun trying.

MARQUIS AMERICA recommends The Aesthetik, an awesome corsetry, simply beautiful.

Continuing our “Steampunk Goes Fetish” coverage, we feature some very special corsets from alt goth designer The Aesthetik.

The Reversible corset allows you to choose two fabrics, in keeping with the utilitarian Steampunk ethic: you can have pinstripe on one side and the wonderful Alexander Henry tattoo print on the other.

    Another Steamy style is the V-Rivit corset, seen below;

The Men’s Corset is sharp and stylish, perfect for a night at the Gentleman’s Club.

The Peplum Corset Coat is the steamiest style of all, with potential to please both a uniform fetishist and a Neo-Victorian looking for a riding habit to wear on her Penny Farthing.

From the atelier of the Aesthetik comes this design philosophy:

I love my Goth roots, my black weeping willow.  As with my cultural heritage I am not strictly bound by those social rules.  There are only so many “Romantic Goth” or tight PVC club outfits one can design before it all looks alike.  The gothic wardrobe is not just club wear.  I design for the Epicurean Goth, to them it is a lifestyle.  My customer requires a broader range of options as a goth or alt. lifestyle individual.  There will not be the need to run home and change because three other people are wearing the same outfit. What one liked as a “baby bat” – the nylon Halloween cape with red lining – may not be what you wear now – floor sweeping opera coat with feather delecatage.  The Aesthetik offers an evolution of gothic design from the “Gothling” in high school, wearing Hot Topic, to the  “Sophisto-Goth”.  Welcome home you ultra stylish dark individual; we embrace you.
